Look, Chris's comedy isn't my cup of tea either, but so many other people have said far worse at award shows. A joke, even a tasteless one, is just words. Unprovoked violence is a crime. As for the clip, I mean, the only one who really should be admonished for saying that word is Louis CK. Gross. And I agree with you, trust me I know where you're coming from. As I said, it is messed up that Will did that, but don't you think people exaggerate this? The need of celebrities to out their opinion about this is also far too much for no reason. If really anyone here is a victim, it is Jada. People make it about Will and Chris but if both of them minded their business, she wouldn't be the piss pole of this situation. In my opinion, the only thing exaggerated here is the extent to which Jada was offended. He compared her to GI Jane, a dignified female character, it's not like he called her Gollum or Uncle Fester. I'm not even convinced that he knew about her autoimmune disease (which my cousin has, and really, it's not a big deal). She has had that look since I first laid eyes on her in Scream 2. But speaking of Jada, her body language in this clip is chilling. She laughs when Chris gets slapped, and keeps her gaze on him the entire time. She doesn't seem shocked or embarrassed that her husband just committed assault on her behalf. Very bizarre.

I feel like we've talked so much about this but what's so sad is how Will probably has done this since working for this King Richard movie and realizing that Richard protected his daughters to the end, and Will has apparently a lot of guilt that he obviously has not resolved now as a grown ass man, because his dad would beat up his mom and he would do nothing, and he has always regretted it (his words). But on the other hand what Will doesn't realize when he hit Chris, is that Chris has been traumatized as a kid for being bullied non stop, and one time he wanted to defend himself for once in his life and got a brick inside his book and hit someone with it. He felt so appalled and terrified by his own behavior he promised to himself to never be violent ever again. Just sad situation on both end tbh
StrawberryBlond 14,602
I think it's really classy of him not to capitalise on the incident right now. A comedian who experiences such a hot button issue surrounding him just as he was about to kick off a tour would be a gift-wrapped opportunity. I also think it proves that the incident wasn't staged as I'm sure he would've told jokes about it if it was. Sad to hear that he seemed a bit tearful. It's probably all hitting him now. His show was called Everybody Hates Chris for a reason and that was a sanitised, fun take on how things actually were. He was detailing his trauma surrounding past bullying in a podcast earlier and how it caused him to allow people to walk all over him after that so as to avoid conflict and his own anger becoming destructive. My friend said to me: "He accepted that hit like someone who was used to it." I think it probably runs deep for him, let's put it that way. And I feel a lot of people might not consider that because he composed himself so well and laughed through it. Ever heard of laughing through the pain? Loads of comedians have done that to deal with their sadness, by the way. 4 hours ago, phantasmas said: I find it funny that so many yt people are scared and upset over this like violence doesn’t run through their bloodlines I'm surprised more people haven't drawn attention to this wildly inappropriate comment. Saying "yt" doesn't make what you said any more palatable. Whites are not the only race to have committed violence. Violence, oppression, colonisation and racism are a human invention. There is no race on the planet who hasn't practicised this stuff to some degree. Surely white people taking Chris's side shows that they're supportive of black people? Or taking either side, considering both parties are black? Plenty of black people are disgusted by this too, any sane person is. "White people aren't allowed to be shocked by violence because their ancestors committed violence" is truly one of the most absurd claims I've ever seen here. When did it become acceptable to make negative blanket statements like this about entire groups of people? Think before you type.

I said SO MANY not ALL, weirdo and I wasn’t making a generalization, I was making an observation as anyone else could have made by hopping into the comments of every video, article, and social media post about this Sorry you don’t understand irony or know how to have a nuanced conversation Bye, sweaty

A lot of people don't give 2 hoots about the race of people involved in any given situation. But, whatever, obviously, we're not agreeing on this. I somehow get the feeling you wouldn't say anything this outrageous offline either because you know the kinda reaction it would receive. Just be prepared to be called out for it online as well.
