Wet Fire

And the plot thickens. This is almost as complicated as the resurfaced old videos of Will Smith making fun of someone's bald head. :laughga:

This trend of people digging up dirt on celebrities when they say something people don’t like and the ensuing discourse is so exhausting. Some people devote so much rage and energy to this as if these celebrities are gonna actually sit at their computer crying over it. 200.gif
edit: don’t know why this posted twice. oops

Commenting on some internet phenomenon is definitely not the same as participating in it.200.gif

How does one “participate” in an online phenomenon? Via text comments accompanied by gifs and or videos expressing one’s opinions on said phenomenon, correct?

Is that not what just occurred in your previous post?

You felt your 2 cents on the subject were important enough to be heard just like everyone else.

Hardly anything anyone has to say on this site is important. That doesn’t mean I won’t chime in if I like.

Incorrect. The specific online phenomenon I mentioned was about rehashing celebrities’ controversial moments in response to their comments/actions you don’t like.

I haven't done that. I am not doing the thing I described just by commenting on it. Again, there is a difference between talking about a conversation and being a part of that conversation.

In the forums I moderate, bringing up something this old would result in the thread immediately being locked. Here is part of my code of conduct:

There is a cultural force called “cancel culture” where people are judged too harshly for things they either did a long time ago when the behavior may have been acceptable, things that can very well be false accusations, jokes in bad taste, having a reasonable political opinion (even if we do not agree with the opinion), or things no reasonable person would consider unacceptable behavior.

That in mind, please do not do any of the following, regardless of whether the accused is alive or dead:

* Please do not attack someone for something they did or believed a long time ago, unless one can present solid evidence that the alleged wrongdoer should had known the action (or belief) in question was not OK at the time. This is a fundamental human right: People can not be tried for Ex Post Facto crimes.

* Please do not assume someone is guilty of a heinous or criminal act without proof beyond a reasonable doubt they did the act in question.

* Please do not assume that a poorly done joke has been done to actually denigrate a group of people without looking at the context of the joke, including when the joke was made and the reason for the joke.

* Please do not attack someone or assume someone is a terrible person because they hold a political or other opinion one may disagree with, unless a reasonable person would infer the political belief and/or opinion in question is unacceptable.

So you’re commenting on the comments. You’re a subtweet. It’s all part of the same thread. You not participating in the discourse would be you not participating in the discourse.

Sure, I agree with your fundamental right to free speech, but this kind of nonsense while allowed to be free from government intervention (and, there are very good reasons we protect this from government intervention: Look at what happens to protesters in Russia for a real-world example of a society where you don’t have those protections), doesn’t result in productive speech.

The fact that this nonsense is sometimes tolerated in GGD is one of the reasons I no longer participate here, except to help with the original song contest. These kinds of discussions just results in a bunch of useless drama and I have better things to do with my time.

The same thing happened with Halle Berry when she had presented for lead actor, it's so weird how men used to think they could just do this kissing thing :duck:

The discourse in this case being conversations about how terrible Jim Carey is. Correct, I’m not participating in that. I made one broad comment about “cancel culture.”

But ok, let’s consider that part of the same discourse. What now?

"Aw the song ended. I didn't even get to c*m."

:triggered:

I'll just go carry on with these blue balls, thanks.
