The nerve you have to say this:

Your comment also sends signals to victims of assault and physical abuse that violence against them can be justified if what their abuser said upset them.

When you don't know what I've been through personally AND I've said MULTIPLE TIMES in this thread it wasn't justified.

Don't quote me again. Like, ever.

I truly, honestly, do not understand the outrage over a slap :deadbanana: people get slapped every day. Sometimes they deserve it...

You said sometimes slapping someone, which is physical assault, is justified.

The language you are using is sending signals to victims of assault, like myself, that sometimes the violence used against them is justified based on what they have said - which is never ever the case.

Do not hit people. Like, ever.

I hope you cool down a little PartySick.

an autoimmune disorder that does one thing: your body attacks hair follicles.  Just hair.  It's not scary.

Blowing it into a big scary term like that is just a way to try to validate and justify WIll's violence, which I can't see is rational.

Bonkers, I just wanna say, as I myself is a girl who is newly suffering alopecia rn, that even tho it's not "serious" it still is mentally upsetting/distressing and scary to me in a way.. but I totally understand what you're saying about it not being deadly or anything

However I would also say that I would not really be offended at that joke myself (if I had shaved my head) I would love to be compared with Demi Moore lol

I totally acknowledge it's emotionally painful - I don't even think "devastating" is too strong of a word for most people who go through it.

And I know it's harder for women, but I went through serious hairloss starting at 17 (bald by 21) and I would say being a YOUNG man and bald is maybe more like what it's like for women because it is so unusual.

It's not that I want to minimize alopecia - what I'm objecting to is people using the term "health condition" because we usually think of health conditions as something you can't joke about because health is a serious matter.  In other words trying to exaggerate the offense of the joke, when I don't think it was intended.  I know it IS a health condition, and IS an autoimmune disease - but people are using that term to amplify the serverity of it to make it sound more obviously off limits.

And I'm very sorry you're going through that.  As man, I came to terms with it long ago, and I'm lucky I look good with a shaved head.  If you try really short hair, that's almost always the best bet for hairloss. I bet it suits you!

But i know what it feels like when people look, or make jokes, or if it rains and all of that stuff.  It's really, really difficult.

Smith apologized to the academy and cried a flood of tears during his acceptance speach. We have laws and criminal and civil courts to deal with assault. I'm not concerned about Smith menacing society. Is Chris Rock even in the academy, idk.

The show chose to present some awards before the show because they did not have enough time to show awards being presented for some categories. Yet Chris Rock, who was not a host, had time to do bad jokes that were in no way relevant to his presenting award for documentary. That time was wasted.

I think Chris Rock should apologize for wasting broadcast time that could have been used for actually presenting awards to the people that deserved awards. He should apologize to Jada for jabbing her medical condition. He should apologize to Quest Love for stealing the joy from that award presentation. He should apologize for suggesting Jada should play a role for a younger person, oh no she would never get the part because she is 50. I wonder if he followed an approved script with those jokes or if he just used the stage for his own personal schtick.

I’m so sorry, but I do not think he needed to apologize. I understand violence should never be the answer, but humans are not perfect and sometimes our emotions can take control of us. I know if somebody made a mockery of my boyfriend, especially if it was about a health problem, and ESPECIALLY on national television I would do the same, or worst. And I’m positive anybody in a long term relationship would agree. Not to mention, Will just slapped him. Hard? Yes. But it could have been MUCH worst. Chris was able to immediately make a joke out of it directly after it happened.

Edit: The fact he publicly apologized just shows that either he is the bigger person, or his team made him do it. Either way, sometimes you get what you have coming to you.

He definitely needed to apologize. There is no excuse for physical assault. It's also against the law.

Yes...after Chris made fun of his wife's health condition? The anger is justified. The violence, of course, is not and never is but it's certainly not shocking enough to warrant global media attention and outrage :messga:

The way people are up in arms you'd think he went up there and snapped his neck or something.

Well, if you choose to do it on stage, live in an event that airs all over the world, then you will for sure get global media attention.

And violence is not a normal sight for a lot of people, however mild you think it is. Especially between celebrities in an awards show. It's an oddity at the very least.

When a few of the housewives throw some bows after one too many sangrias, the masses watch it like they're at a UFC match. We live for Pumkin and New York getting into it.

But God forbid Will Smith lose his chill momentarily and stand up for his wife by giving Chris Rock a warning slap.

Most functioning adults realize that violence is wrong. Will recognized he wasn't in the right. No charges are being pressed. They made up that night. So why exactly is he the devil all of a sudden??

The mistake I've made feels like a sin. And like all my sins, I will hide as much evidence as possible and pretend it never happened 😇

You're entitled to your opinion, but please don't generalize. I'm in an 18-year relationship and if my partner acted the way Will did, I would be furious.

Do not drag race into this conversation, the reaction is based on what he did, it's not about his race, this is a ridiculous take.

I'm sorry you have had to go thru that too :kara: it must have been really hard being so young. I'm praying and hoping mine doesn't progress to complete hair loss, evidently it's unpredictable since it's autoimmune :fatcat:

I agree tho, it's very different than other health conditions because it's not harmful physically and people are saying "health condition" to exaggerate the offense in a way.. anyways in this kind of thing I always try to have humor, like this is just life and what can you do but laugh sometimes when you're also crying.. if it was a joke about being ugly (like comparing to gollum or something) I would feel different but the joke/roast in question is actually not in that bad of humor to me idk maybe I'm weird

I don't think he should lose his Oscar over this. He wasn't even charged, let alone convicted of assault. With that said, he should be disinvited from next year's Oscars, lest he pull a stunt like that again!
