Link some articles

Here is a link to an Australian study detailing the deaths of 127 people who died from a single strike to the head between 2000 and 2016

Man dies after being slapped. The slap ruptured an artery in his brain and he bled to death:

There are no shortage of stories about people who have died from one slap or punch to the head:

When you slap or punch someone on the head, that blow itself can cause their death, either by rupturing an artery or worsening an unknown pre-existing condition. The potential for them to loose their balance and fall over makes blows the the head even more dangerous.

When you factor in the height and weight difference between Chris and Will, and Will's previous training as a boxer, Chris is very lucky that he is fine.

It's shocking that this needs to be said, but let's be clear, never hit an unsuspecting person in the head. It's dangerous and potentially life threatening.

She. :vegas:

She lost her Dad to a single blow to the head, so this is a cause close to her heart. She works with a charity, One Punch UK, that raises awareness for how deadly single punches and slaps to the head can be. She lists several people in her community who have died from single blows to the head.

A politician using a popular moment in a public discourse to raise awareness about an issue that is personally important to them is okay. Whatever else she is doing as a leader may be open to criticism, but probably not this.

Oh, my bad :bear:

Is slapping a "cause" now? It's not like it's domestic violence or a hate crime or something. A dude told an off color joke and got jacked for it. People are taking it waaaay too seriously :messga:

Pulling any narrative, even one as close to the heart as this, from a slap is just...weird to me.

If awareness for alopecia is a cause, then yes, bringing awareness to preventable acts of violence that are potentially fatal is a cause.

My previous post in this thread links to studies and stories detailing the dangers of blows to the head, even blows that you wouldn't think are hard enough to cause damage.

Watching someone be slapped on television isn't just going to trigger people who have lost loved ones to fatal blows to the head, like the MP, but it will also trigger people who are victims of domestic violence. There will be a lot of people at home who have been "jacked" by their parents or partners for telling a joke that they didn't like.

Downplaying assault is weird to me . Don't put your hands on people, period.

I appreciate all of the links. If the intent is to hurt someone and you are using as much force as a punch, then yes... it would stand to reason the effect could be as deadly. But the first PDF is about punches specifically, and there are some key notes all about the amount of force used:

First link: Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's Office investigators explained that the force from the slap caused the victim's head to turn, rupturing arteries in his neck that then hemorrhaged and bled into the brain and brain stem.

2nd link: The Bronx teen whose hard slap proved fatal to an Italian tourist during an argument outside a bodega last week told cops the man called him an "immigrant" and was trying to score drugs, court papers show.

6th link: A grown man slapping a 13 year old: The girl collapsed to the floor unconscious with blood trickling from her nose. Mr Sidime called 911 and Noutene was rushed to a hospital, CTV News reported.

The 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th links were all about punches.

The difference in size between Will and Chris and Will's background training in boxing is also a factor. In that, if Will was trying to hurt Chris, Chris would have been on the ground, not recovering and speaking as if nothing had happened.

Don't make fun of someone's illness and humiliate them in front of the entire world if you don't want to risk getting clocked.

That's not the point... Jada's appearance as a beautiful woman or getting compared to another beautiful woman doesn't give a man the right to make light of something that is clearly devastating to her. Just like that *other user* it seems like there's some resentment or weird feelings that Jada has the right to feel bad about what's happened to her because she is still considered beautiful.

What if someone made a joke about Angelina's mastectomy?

She is still considered the most beautiful woman in hollywood with or without breasts, like Jada is still beautiful with or without hair. Would you be reacting the same, that it's just a joke?

Why is it a man's right to tear a woman, who is already down, down further to get a laugh?

Will slapped him. Has a grown and healthy man ever died from a slap? I don’t think so.

If it’s okay for privileged men making millions on live television to do this, it sends a message. If you‘re a rolemodel for so many, it sends a message.

The „Chris insulted his wife, so it‘s okay“ argument becomes a problem if you remember that every hate crime is based on this argument. Every fight in a club is based on this. Every street crime is based on this principle. Every abuser beating up his wife for insulting and embarrassing him argues this way.
