I mean I guess the transition is kind of funny, but basically they're just saying they don't want the award ceremony to be overshadowed by Will Smith's behavior. I'm simply reminding you of the double standards, and I hope you're not comparing a slap to continuous sexual abuse. The problem with sexual assault is that it's always someone's word again another person's. Here, this happened for everyone to see, there's no doubt about what happened. Runway 27,876
Maybe they would have wanted Will Smith to punch him backstage where no one could see like harvey weinstein did when he raped all those women. Its not that he slapped someone, its that it was recorded on live tv. They’re gross.
Roughhouse Dandy 11,569
If Chris Rock is working it out with Will and not pressing charges, idk why everyone else is getting outraged for him. To take the trophy from him but letting countless other actors/actresses keep theirs when they've been caught in BAD moments seems like overkill. But hey, it's their award and they can do whatever they see fit about it. 🤷🏽♀️ This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.

Both Will & Jada’s whole stance on awards bodies in Hollywood is about their lack of inclusivity and equality. This incident isn’t directly related to it, but let’s not pretend that conversation & the media aren’t going to go after that angle. It always gets ‘political’ unfortunately. Look at Twitter.. it started the moment the incident happened. I am sure even if the Oscar is taken away from him at one point it will soon start to be a racial thing,,, and it will come from then

dopega 3,733
If they're going to take a trophy away from a black actor for losing his temper they might as well take everyone's awards away as most of the past winners are bunch of abusers who've done much worse things like s*xually assault a ton of their peers, yet the Academy has awarded them knowing about the allegations. StrawberryBlond 14,881
Honestly, I feel revoking it is just overly mean and bitter. Awards/prizes should really only be revoked if there's proof you cheated in some way. I think it would be meaningless to whoever they gave it to instead because they know they only got it because the real winner lost his s**t and they were just the second place option so have the award by default. And the performance still stands regardless of behaviour on the night. But I absolutely feel the academy should respond with a hard line in every other way. A fine, a ban from ever attending ceremonies again (or at least for a couple of years), no admission to the academy ranks as a voting member, that kinda thing. The first thing I thought when I heard this was that, forget never winning again, he'll never even get nominated again, he'll be lucky if he ever gets invited as a mere guest. It's so sad, he's been working his entire career for an Oscar and now he finally gets it and ruins it for himself. You have to admit, that's the biggest punishment and he knows it.
