I don't condone unprovoked violence, so I cannot defend Will for assaulting Chris Rock.

With that being said, if they allowed notorious sexual abusers/rapists to keep their awards then Will has every right to keep his over a slap. These replies...this ain't it.

I was surprised to see him celebrate at the Vanity Fair after party. Didn’t think he would show himself after that, but I guess decency left the building a while ago.

Nobody was ever assaulted on the Oscars stage before, you can’t blame the Academy for taking swift action.

Also.. him & his wife have been so vocal about the Academy’s & entertainment industry in general being ‘so white’ in the past… & this is how he chooses to represent his values on a global stage?

What does that have to do with anything? Thinly veiled racism :wtf:

You're right, they were consistently (and some repeatedly) assaulted sexually behind the scenes and the powers that be still saw it fit to hand out Oscars left and right. I think Will is okay.

It is those racist stereotype about POC being aggressive, so he just saying this point, that it is not a good look for him to lose himself like that when Oscars just started to welcome more diversity. It is the one step forward two step back kinda thing, I guess?

Look, I don’t agree with what Will did. I think he was out of line and deserves the criticism (as does Chris Rock).

However, Roman Polanski and Woody Allen and other noted serial sexual abusers of children are allowed to keep their Oscars. What he did was wrong, but it was not worse than what those men did and they never got their wins revoked. Revoking his over something so much lesser is stupid.

So he should. His behavior was disgusting - his winning speech was just as gross, justifying his violence & aggression  by saying ‘love makes me do crazy things’, ‘I’m a protector’ etc. Love doesn’t make you bash people, you’re just an assh*le.

Also.. him & his wife have been so vocal about the Academy’s & entertainment industry in general being ‘so white’ in the past… & this is how he chooses to represent his values on a global stage?

I hope he’s made to return his Oscar for it.. he does not deserve the award after the mockery he made of the Academy. Trash, absolute trash.

Yeah, it´s funny how he is just "representing the black comunity" when he is defending their rights by  acting as Richard Williams in an Oscar nominated movie... But when he is violent with another member of the comunity he is simply "protective of his family" :triggered:

Everything I say is a lie, including this sentence.

Love how the Academy is fine with rewarding rapists and abusers but draws the line at punching someone for insulting your wife on live television in front of millions of people :huntyga:

The audience isn’t ready to have this discussion about what Roman Polanski and Woody Allen also have in common compared to Will Smith…but the people who think revoking him of his Oscar can carry on…

Huh? What does this have to do with race in any way? Can't he call out racism while still being mad at his wife being insulted? Or does he have to be a pristine image of a black person for the whites (who have been throughout history violent as f*ck btw) to accept him and his race? Literally what are you trying to say here? We really need to stop policing black people's behavior and acting like anything and everything they do is a reflection of 'black values' and judge whether they deserve representation and rights based on that. And this is not only directed at this reply but at this entire narrative circulating online right now.
