Unpopular opinions: Madonna

1. Express yourself is the Original ‘Born This Way’. I don’t care whatever anyone else thinks. The moment it debuted I was one of the listeners and my first thought was ‘Express yourself’.

2. ‘Rebel Heart’ is her best album since COADF. ‘Living for Love’ had great potential, so did other songs. Very bad single choices and of course the Infamous leak, well multiple leaks.

3. Even tough I find her recent behavior questionable, I also have to admit that she is completely right about the ageism. I wouldn’t know how to handle the ageism that she faces, so I am actually not supposed to have an opinion on it.

4. She may be cocky/snobby & downright mean sometimes. That is also the thing I love about her. She outlived half her peers and created a legacy with a complete different skillset and an inauthentic talent compared to lets say, Prince/MJ etc.

5. Madame X is an amazing album. The tour was horrendous tough. Not one single tour of hers has been edited so badly when it comes to her dancing. Wich proves that she can’t keep up anymore.

What did Madonna deserve an Oscar for?

Evita. Obviously.
Or her director work on W.E. that film is beautifully done... the attention to detail is on point.

The concept and artistry behind it was amazing but I think some parts are unlistenable with the over used Autotune. It kinda ruined many songs. It also has some of her best songs to me

It’s her best film and a good performance but clearly not as good as the other nominees that year. She was not even the best musician turned actress that year. Courtney Love ate her up with ease.

Madonna won the Golden Globe for Best Actress that year, not Courtney, so not sure how she could have eaten “her up with ease.”

She was definitely deserving of an Oscar nomination that year, and didn’t get it because of all the history that came with being “Madonna.” She’s not an outstanding actress, and has had plenty of flukes, but I don’t think critics have ever given her a fair shot.

She should have taken the opportunity to do Chicago in the 90s. That role would have fit her perfectly, and it was a missed opportunity.

American Life is not the album that is responsible for ending Madonna's career, it's actually Hard Candy. Madonna still had the older and experimental crowds with her during American Life. On Hard Candy, Madonna and her management (almost) completely alienated both of those groups by trying to focus too hard on a group that she was losing due to ageism, which was the younger crowd.

Let me show you how unpopular opinions one can truly have. :staymad:

- 80s Madonna is the best.
- Like a Prayer is Madonna’s best album. True Blue is the 2nd best. Ray of Light 3rd.
- Like a Prayer in Paris in 1990 is Madonna’s best life performance ever.

- American Pie is the best song on Music.
- Holiday is Madonna’s best song.

All of this. But I have to say, that Like A Prayer performance is one of the if not the best performance by a pop star ever.

Madame X and Rebel Heart surpass Ray Of Light in my rankings.
Confessions is a disappointing album, having listened to it after people would hype it up. I found it fall flat.
True Blue is her top album for me with it being the only album I find to be cohesive and not contain any skips (so top 4 albums in my rankings are True Blue, Rebel Heart, Madame X, and Ray of Light - they are also the only albums I saved to my library).
Erotica is my absolute least favorite album, containing 0 songs I like.

Just saw this and wheewww am I late!!!

Here we go:

- Like A Prayer is overrated.

- Her self-titled album is extremely underrated.

- Like A Virgin's non-singles are bad.

- Her creative peak was from 1998 to 2005.

- Confessions on a Dance Floor has a phenomenal start, but crumbles a bit towards the middle/back half of the record.

- Hard Candy is a fun record. It may have been a pandering effort by Madonna, but it's a good gym record.

- Rebel Heart is bloated with too many ideas/soundscapes.

Spoiler

Not an unpopular opinion, but here's my Madonna discography ranking.

1. Ray of Light

2. American Life

3. Music

4. Bedtime Stories

5. True Blue

6. Madonna

7. Confessions on a Dance Floor

8. Like A Prayer

9. Erotica

10. Hard Candy

11. Rebel Heart

12. Like A Virgin

13. Madame X

14. MDNA

Only true Madonna stans get it

Apparently there was some fan interview during some European sticky and sweet tour date in 2009 and the reporter asked a fan what their fave Madonna song was and she said the bedtime stories forbidden love and started playing it on her phone with its long ass intro and the reporter was like :awkney:
