BTW would’ve easily been 90+ on metacritic had it been released now

Yeah! Critics have always been exceptionally harsh on Gaga. ARTPOP was smeared as 'critically panned' but none such things were said against Prism while both the albums had EXACTLY the same metascore back in 2013. :laughga:

No, I must say I agree. At the time it was perceived as this weird brash loud pop rock opera that was trying to say too much, but in this current climate and with Gaga’s star status what it is today. That ideology has changed and the way we view Born This Way, LGBT rights and pop music in general. The reception would be much MUCH brighter

It’s 71 despite someone literally giving it a 0 lmao. And don’t forget that 2011 critics were way more harsh.

I agree! But it wouldn’t be 90+, saying that is just too optimistic lol. And BTW is my favourite of hers

Also I have to say Sakura is nothing short of beautiful, deep, and haunting. I lost hope in this new generation of artists but she might rekindle something in me to believe in it. Not yet but maybe only for Rosalia. It is insanely beautiful, good quality ****, and I missed that a lot. I could picture that song being part of an iconic Tarantino or Godfather movie (although it's ignorant because the song is about being a popstar and how fame is fleeting) it's cinematic at times. It also sounds a bit dated in the best way possible, dated in the sense of timelessness

I know I'll be hated for this, but this acclaim is way overblown. This album is a mediocre mess. The fact it's experimental doesn't make it good. But this is the line that critics seem to take now. I'm more and more convinced of an agenda that makes them say this is return for payment. Especially for artists who are in the process of trying to make "happen," like Rosalia. That isn't a bash at her talent, it's just the way the critic industry seems to work now. She's way more talented than this attempt at appealing to modern fringe culture would suggest. Surely critics would see this very obvious marketing ploy, seeing how she'd changed so much from her last album? Surely critics would be able to detect what pandering to the edgy youth market looks like? As @Suspiria said elsewhere, this entire album sounds like a bunch of attempts to be TikTok hits and nothing more. Why aren't critics picking up on this? There was a time when they were so harsh to females if they tried anything new or were deemed to be trying too hard for a commercial hit or trying too hard to be edgy. Not saying this was a good thing, but my question is, what's changed? In my opinion, money talks, that's all I'll say.

Do you mean they support basic music more than they used to and/or supporting highly sexualised music in a way they never used to? I'd say both are true. I guess critics are getting younger and therefore more open to edginess and sexuality in music because the old critics of yore, especially ones from "snobby" newspapers would have never normally given this kinda stuff the time of day. Yet, I'm younger than a lot of critics and even I can see the problems of so many young artists music. I'm at a loss as to how older generations can see something good in this music that I can't. Unless, as I said above, money is paid out to save an album that would otherwise get savaged.

I was not into the singles but I have to say it’s a pretty solid experimental album. I think they made a mistake by trying to sell this record as “pop”

I loved Saoko and the other singles were okay. But the album didn't live up to they hype imo. I really wanted to like it and nothing stuck to me. Maybe Bulerías and Delirio de Grandeza.

Lmao they blocked my signature
