First of all I want to clarify that from listening to the singles I formed a VERY negative impression of the "era". However, I decided to give the album a chance and was pleasantly surprised (overall). That said, I want to point out that there is something very interesting about this album. We are going through a historical moment in which the "experimental", the "weird", the "unpopular" are positively valued. What is "for the few" is valued. But the curious thing is that, paradoxically, everyone (or the vast majority of people) seems to agree in loving this album. One has to wonder, then, how experimental/avant-garde/visionary an album is if literally 95% of the public and critics agree on how good it is from the first listen. Likewise, I agree with a review I read somewhere that wondered how well received the album would have been among Anglo-Saxon critics if it weren't for an artist who sings almost entirely in "Spanish". I think that many of the nuances of the lyrics, such as the meter and the use of certain words (which in several of the songs are plainly and simply cringey), are not appreciated by non-Hispanic listeners. The album is fine, but it seems to me that one should not be dazzled by the universal praise it is receiving at the moment.

Didn’t it occur to you that these lyrics were absolutely intentional? At this point, Rosalía is undoubtedly an artist who knows her craft and who has a clear vision and intention. She has repeated many times in recent interviews that this album was a way for her to show her sense of humor. Thinking those lyrics were accidents is ridiculous and low-key disrespectful to Rosalía’s intelligence. You think that’s cringe? Good. That was the ****ing point. It’s worth mentioning the album is also receiving widespread acclaim from Spanish publications, so your argument doesn’t really hold at all.

Once again, I can’t believe I have to explain this to the fanbase of a woman who has made a career out of subverting expectations and people’s views of what’s considered tasteful or beautiful.

The best part of it all is that Rosalia pulled the "humor" narrative out of the galley only after she started getting absolute BACKLASH for the lyrics of the singles. "Do you think it is cringe? Great, that's just what I was looking for!" lmaooooo

The fact you're holding on to this narrative for dear life is ignorant and low-key misogynistic, but go off.

This album has 94 on metacritic, and I see almost all of comments here negative. I’m not into that type of music, but I find it interesting how perception can differ so drastically.

Sugar, spice, and everything nice.

Don’t bother with these people. An artist will literally say “My intention was this” and they will say it isn’t.

Watching her interviews confirmed my analysis of her songs was correct and that’s all that’s needed.

I know it's random but I keep thinking this is Rosalia's version of what ARTPOP tried to achieve, with a more focused and mature production

Lorde stands MOTOMAMI btw

"What else? I’ve listened to the Rosalía album every day since it came out, f*ck, it’s so good, I gagged when I heard that interpolation of Archangel, Hentai is genius, Sakura… projects like this remind me why I live for pop music — at its best, there’s nothing better."

Soft, soothing, and succulent

Overall theme of transformation, rebellion, risky album after major success, deep personal vs "shallow"/ satirical themes, exploration of pop star as a person, it's all there :tony:

Diablo is THAT song.

I wanna say, a lot of the vocals in the songs sound kind of far away? Like a demo? Was that intentional?

I still don't get why everybody hates the production so much on ARTPOP 💀 The chaotic electronic beats go hard asf still
