In theory its a good idea, in practice the decisions are made by centralised government for their own benefit and everyone suffers. It's kind of how counties work in the UK. Ie, London gets everything and everyone north of Watford can choke.

It recognized long time ago that one time in the future Georgia can apply for membership . Georgia is geographically Euroasian country but it is culturally european and most important they Identify Like that!! I've always wondered where the cut off was. But I've also always wondered why Europe is considered its own continent at all when it's clearly part of Asia it's not even just touching tips like Africa and Asia or North and South America, it's just entirely part of the landmass. dit 46,738
Both will be turned down sadly. Isnt there a rule that you cannot join if you have major territorial disputes with neighbors? The last time a state joined which had major territory issues was Cyprus despite its breakaway North region and I remember reading lots of articles in my political sciences courses about how the EU regretted the fact they allowed Cyprus to join without solving the territory issue first because it makes things more complicated as Turkey sees northern cyprus as independent yet the EU see the north as part of the whole Island of Cyprus and this creates political tension on both sides with neither side wanting to concede anything. I want the EU to remain and it has brought so many amazing things. We can even form a sub military unit with each nation contributing a number of soldiers relative to their nations economy and population size etc...BUT I do not want our nations to not have even soft borders...I feel like we are going to erase centuries of culture and history by doing this and we all know Germany & France will literally rule and control all of the EU with an iron fist if we do this. I like this de centralized model . We just need to strengthen some areas some more.

The idea of Europe and Asia being different continents (wrong geographically) originates in Ancient Greece, as Greeks knew Anatolia (modern day Turkey) and the Caucasus are separated from the Balkans and the rest of Europe by the Mediteranean, Marmara and Black Sea. But they weren't aware of the massive land connection north of the Black Sea though mordern-day Russia. It over time became a convention that the Urals and the northern tips of the Caucasus Mountains separate Europe from Asia.
retrosexual123 1,141
The EU accepting more members now, especially these eastern countries with Russian conflicts, would be catastrophic. The EU first needs to sit back and decide what it is and where it’s headed — a Federal State in Europe or not. Because if it is, countries like France might want out…

They Are recognized as potential member states by being in Eastern partnership. You can become a member even if teritorial disputea exist for example by agreeing to arbitrage do resolve the dispute. In this situation where there is a dispute with Russia ( not a member state) I do not think it will be much of a problem Regarding candidacy status for this countries. We are going to talk about Spain, the country where I live. Until a few years ago we had an internal terrorist group that has killed quite a few people, there are the conflicts over the independence of Catalonia.Absolutely all politicians are corrupt, even the royal family is corrupt, and sells weapons to the East, which are used in the wars in that area. We kill bulls by tradition. Many women die every year due to gender abuse. Another example would be that homosexuals cannot donate blood in France. And I could go on. It is very funny how Europeans believe they are the best "race" and the most advanced, when it is not so. Last year a boy was killed in Spain. We could also talk about the rights of homosexuals in Hungary and Poland, and enter into political issues of the extreme right in France. And the list is very long. Doesnt compare to Georgia, Moldova or the Ukraine. And I don’t doubt about the points you mentioned on Spain but it’s not relevant to this discussion. Cálmese mijito and no one is claiming to be the best race here? instead give reasons why these 3 countries must be accepted according to you

What EU will become in the future has nothing to do with accepting new member states. 10 New member states in 2004, 2 new in 2007 and Lisbon treaty came in force in 2009. This clearly shows Evolution of EU is going on while new members Are accepted.
DesertWolf 55,506
Tbh would be nice if Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia joined, but pretty sure they will still have to achieve all the criteria that usually are demanded by EU applicants. So with that in mind I guess they won't join until at least 2030 or even later depending on their own goverments. Ukraine will have to deal with many post-war issues so that will take a lot of time to solve, plus we still don't know how long and what will be the outcome of this war. Moldova and Georgia will have to wait a lot due to their poor economies at first, so I guess they will get EU help when they get applicant status just like many balkan countries that are currently negotiating their entries. Dunno why people start to panic when even Kosovo is considered a potential EU member currently, of course they will work on all the political, social and economical issues of each country before they join. Anyways, happy about future enlargements Black Pt.2 XXXIV
