Someone dishonest might have heard this song and figured the original artists would never know or be able to prove it belonged to them.

It doesn't have to be malicious either. Someone could have heard the melody, forgot about it, and then just the melody remained while they were in creative writing sessions. It happens.

It's not exactly ground breaking stuff here though :bear: both songs are kinda basic. Levitating is for sure just a basic pop bop and the other song sounds like Chic/Nile Rodgers' style with a rasta man singing.

It's like copying someone's recipe for buttered toast. You're not the first to do it, just let it go tbh.

I have yet to this day noticed any similarities between the two beyond having the same chord progression as a million other pop songs :rip:

If Madge wanted to go after Gaga for something stupid she should have waited for Fashion!/Holiday comparisons or Perfect Illusion/Papa Don't Preach comparisons. Those at least make a little sense.

I seriously doubt Dua's team purposely ripped anyone off. But the choruses are the basically the same. My guess is that Dua will have to pay up, much like Sam Smith had to do the same to Tom Petty.

It's not really a big deal. Songs sound the same all the time by accident. But the rules say that the song that comes first gets precedence.

Now, the BTW/EY thing

gaga said she was inspired by 80’s music, so and you can hear it

I love Gaga more than anything, but BTW (at times) sounds extremely similar specifically EY (and not just the sound of the 80s).

uh yes it is? :bear:

it's also on soundcloud with 80k+ listens

It’s greyed out for me and I can’t play it. I can see that it has 1060 plays.

“soundcloud with 80k+ listens” is wildly misleading because likely 79,9k of those came after the Dua news broke. The first comment is from 20 hours ago. Meaning the song had been on SoundCloud for 5 years and could get one (1) comment.

Okay, Just because two songs SOUND identical to each other, doesn't mean that they will win this lawsuit.

They have to justify that Dua or her team intentionally stole the melody, which I don't think happened.

This episode breaks down how the song was developed, and provides literally ALL the evidence that this reggae band is full of BS. They built the instrumental off a synth from TOKYO, and then they wrote the song off the top of it.

I understand where this reggae band is coming from... but I think both songs were written completely individually.

Also: Why did they wait until March 1st to file this lawsuit.... the song has been EVERYWHERE since 2020. They had 2 years to file it.... seems sketchy

This.

Mods can we close this thread please?

Members are using it as an excuse to exhibit their toxicity towards a hard working successful female pop star.

It's 7 pages already of users repeating the same thing over and over. It's defamatory and misogynistic.
