Finland will withdraw from Eurovision if Russia participates

Only right answer to this problem. If Russia attends the Eurovision, then no one else will.

”Now Finland’s state broadcaster YLE has gone a step further, saying that it will withdraw from the contest if Russia is allowed to participate.

Ville Vilén, the director of the broadcaster’s Creative Content and Media Unit, said it would be hypocritical to share the stage with a country that has invaded another.

“Russia’s attack on Ukraine is contrary to all the values that Yle and other European broadcasters represent. Yle always defends Western democracy, the rule of law, freedom of expression and human dignity. Yle cannot take part in an event where Russia, which has blatantly attacked these values, can use one of Europe’s best-known brands to advance its own interests. I hope that the EBU will act in accordance with its values here.””

Russian people who participate in the ESC bear no responsibility in what Putin and his oligarchs do. They are pretty progressive. The song last year was a Feminist bop and definitely not Russian state propaganda. That said, I don't know the Russian candidates this year

Putin wants this. For his people to be excluded so he can grow the hate in them, the hate against anyone who is in Putins way.

Finland needs to use its NATO option asap as they're the only non-allied country, that shares border with Russia and haven't been attacked yet.

And period, they did the right thing :applause:

Russians are going to have the worst reputation moving forward. Is he even aware how he is alienating his entire population from the rest of the world with this act? These people are going to ne unfairly judged moving forward, as most of them I am sure don’t want war and never did...

Like the US in its essence isn’t equally bad or even worse.

I feel for the Russians who are against Putin's actions and being punished but it makes sense that some might not be happy sharing a stage with Russia right now.

Eurovision was made to unify European countries after WWII, It's going to be strange seeing Russia there...

That does not make sense.

Punishing russians for what their leaders do.

Should we do the same thing to america (which also has blood on their hands) or in case of eurovision to other european countries where their leaders do morally shiddy things.

I know whats happening between russia and ukraine is a extreme,  but i think the eurovision is needed even more so. (ecspecially considering why its there)

Finland not taking part of eurovison wouldnt have the effect it wants i think. it would exclude them from eurovision. the war and crimes will just continue.

I know why they are doin this but i think it wouldnt change anything + it has no effective outcome. There are other ways to demonstrate "not agreeing with putin and co" or help people suffering from war.

Sadly, there’s no other way. Every sanction will have impact on Russian citizens too - especially economical ones. And even anti-Putin Russians will struggle because of it, but in the long run it will do them good. The faster Russia kicks Putin out, the better for their country. And (sadly) only lack of money can wake people up to reality from propaganda delusions.
