lavender blonde 692
Countries that vetoed excluding Russia from SWIFT system: - Germany (gas deals, google Nord Stream I and II) - Hungary (Victor Orban is pro-Putin, I’m convinced he tries to destabilize EU from the inside, google latest Orban-Le Pen-Salvini meeting) - Italy (gas, Is Salvini’s party still ruling there? If yes, he’s another pro-Putin politician) - Cyprus (tax haven for Russian oligarchs)

The Gazpiplines and especially Nordstream 2 were the biggest mistake. It left us with the only other option in a case of emergency like rn: to get disgusting expensive fracking gaz from the US. The Ambassador from ukraine in Berlin was invited to the German Ministry (on his own request, yikes ) and did say in a Talk Show yesterday, that German Politicians already gave up Ukraine bts. They wouldn’t listen to him and indirectly told him in the face that its a lost case. So sadly it comes to no surprise that sanctions are light and Russias stocks are rising Germany needs to get out of its seemingly bottomless pit of guilt over its history. I'm not saying that being self-aware of bad actions is a bad thing (actually quite the opposite), but if Germany wants to be the important EU country that it seems to desire, then it needs to step up and further oppose Russia. he/him/his

U cant just suddenly stop buying the majority of ur gas supply when u already have an energy crunch to begin with Theres a lot of tougher measures Nations could be doing sanction wise that they arent doing that wouldnt be as crippling to everyone else as not buying gas

I'm not sure where you're from or if you know this, but gas prices there are already like $7.50/gallon and it's costing them $115 just to get a full tank of gas. They're not in a position to just drop Russia's gas imports just like most other countries.
