Russia's desired borders, according to its most extreme ambitions, are the Baltic Sea - Vistula river - Carpathians - the Black Sea. I think this invasion's aim was always to annex the coast of the Black Sea, everything east of the Dniper and possibily even Transnistria into Russia and I see the rest of Ukraine as being allowed to exist as a seperate entity. The frontlines being almost entirely in Ukraine's eastern half and the occupation of Snake Island is consistent with this. Depending on how quick they expected the takeover of Ukraine to be, I wouldn't be suprised if they also planned an attack on the Republic of Moldova.
