Meredith Grey 3,140
Just now, dojo said: i still secretly believe she said it but since at the time there was no internet and she didn't say it on camera probs now it's very easy to just deny it I feel like she said it jokingly and is now just acting like she never did. It reminds me of how before the internet Paula Abdul used to lie and say she survived a plane crash bc no one could check her LOL

JLoveLamar 379
I do not think Meryl would say something like that to a journalist, but she does have her snide side. She had some catty remarks to say about Courtney Love to a messy friend who told Courtney Love what Meryl said. They were both in the running to play Lady Macbeth, the film ended up not getting made, and Courtney Love won the role. Well, Meryl said to the friend something like "this was a big case of stunt casting." The friend told Courtney what Meryl said, and Courtney got Meryl's phone number and recited one of Lady Macbeth's monologues on her voice-mail. Courtney Love told this story on David Letterman, I believe.

freebit 6,221
lol @ how her doing an American Express commercial was framed as her seeing ~hard times~ so she had to do it. Meryl does have a bit of a petty side. Movie critic Pauline Kael didn't care for Meryl ("acted only from the neck up" and "bloodless" were some of her critiques). When asked about her in 2008 (Pauline had passed away years before), Meryl went in: You know what I think? That Pauline was a poor Jewish girl at Berkeley with all these rich Pasadena WASPs with long blonde hair, and their heartlessness got to her; then, years later, she saw me." Anyway, this Madonna quote was probably true, like it was a New York Times article, they're not exactly The Sun.
