Tbh I think our laws and politics are more progressive than the general population tbh

 

Its ingraned that Canada is supposed to be accepting (so most immigrants from conservative cultures that dont agree with LGBT for example or gender equality)dont challange the laws vocaly like conservatives do in the US... A lot of Canadians in many regions are also more conservative

 

In Canada people in general also have (until recently) not taken protests generally as far as in the US so when Government makes decisions ppl have tended to follow it despite not agreeing

 

But the point is politics and laws have consistently been more progressive than the general population which is a discrepancy that im surprised hasnt led to explosive tension sooner. Literally at least a 1/3 of the ppl i know if not more are either conspiracy theorists regarding covid or if not at the very least have very early on seriously been anti restrictions and that government is taking our freedoms. That number of complainers now is like 80% but thats largely pandemic fatigue talking so thats different

 

Maybe its the US culture influence empowering ppl to get more agressive in protests and speaking out i dunno but im surprised this didnt happen sooner

 

Ppl perceive Canada to be so progressive as a society cuz our laws and politics kind of suggest that but a much larger share of our population than is generally perceived internationally is not progressive like that at all
