I don’t think we’re just talking about number of years, but actual pop culture relevancy. Britney hadn’t released a hit album in a while when she hit vegas. When Gaga hit Vegas It was the same time she starred in ASIB which became a global phenomenon and had a massive hit song and she booked a solo Super Bowl right after that. Britney was not booking the super bowl during her Vegas days. (Although right now Britney is more relevant than ever due to the conservatorship going down so she could book anything she wants now if she feels up to it)

Therein lies the difference and this is why they cannot be compared. ASIB became a phenomenon. Gaga has had a great career so far, but Britney Spears herself was a phenomenon. She's a once in a lifetime star, and i don't think we'll ever see anything like it. Gaga's career cooling down is a tad different from a supernova's career cooling down.

Sure. I agree. I think she was on a very different trajectory than Gaga was when she did her residency. I still hesitate to call Britney a “has been” though because now we know what was going on behind the scenes and she could prob smash again now if she wanted to.

I'm hoping for this.

I live outside the space time continuum.

You’re widening the discussion now, but don’t forget they Gaga herself absolutely became a phenomenon as herself when she debuted. No one had seen anything like her and she was by far the hugest pop star in the world during her debut. Her offbeat stule changed the way all the pop girls dressed and styled themselves, and Gagas four on the floor dance sound was unique on pop charts at the time and ushered in a new era of dance electro pop that reshaped music. She was every bit the supernova Britney was and arguably more so.  I love Britney too but dont dismiss Gaga as just a “good career”. Her ability to sing pop, to jazz, to classical style Sound of Music, to rock, to write her own songs, to play her own instruments, to act and get awards…. Gaga is a once in a generation talent supernova that we may never see again.

i know it sounds so horrible, my bad. I apologize.

britney is a queen and she forever will be one.

The fact that she had way less promo lined up for albums during the residency (and conservatorship in general) while also being under the conservatorship is something that a lot of people find to be suspicious.

Ok, so let us compare album sales by the albums. From the first albums to the last.

Nobody was a supernova like Britney Spears was. Every single thing she touched turned to gold, selling singles since she debuted (Gaga almost went bankrupt with her first tour), a huge Pepsi contract (those commercials), tours that were selling like hotcakes all from a first album. Nobody has ever went to any of the pop girls and had a whole film built around them like Britney with Crossroads. Not Gagz, not Bey, Katy, Xtina, Rihanna, etc. They all had to audition. MTV came to Britney and asked her what she wanted her first film to be centered around, and they took Britney's idea and ran with it. Say what you will about the quality of the film, but that speaks to the power of Britney Spears. She has no box office to go on, and no acting experience.

By the time her second album got here, she could not be stopped. Gaga was a hot girl, but not by herself. There was Beyoncé, Rihanna, Katy, etc. Britney ruled on her own throne. This Is a Gaga forum, but let's not kid ourselves. What Gaga has on Britney is critical acclaim because she can truly sing, dance and play instruments. Britney at her height could not be stopped, and could not be touched by anyone in her peer group. Period. I don't care what awards the other girls get over Britney.

And essentially ending international tours for established artists?:selena: I'll thank Britney for a lot of things but this ain't one!!

I’ll cut some slack in this case as the boom really started happening around covid. Gaga did it sooner than that BUT we know her hip pain and fibro was an enormous factor in that moreso than the money which at the time was not totally there yet like it is now. I think once it isn’t such a liability to travel, we’ll see international tours spring back. It’s just been so hard and expensive with the various stages of shutdown in various places. Logistically, Vegas just makes more sense in the meantime

From an artist's perspective Vegas makes so much sense in every way, total no brainer. And of course I'd rather watch videos online of their shows than them not do any shows at all.

But still, it's hard not to feel a little bitter every time another established icon announces a Vegas residency that I'll never be able to go to:selena: but thats just me being selfish

In terms of total record sales, Gaga has 124 millions vs Britney with 100 million. Your argument about the box office flop Crossroads somehow being more significant than Gaga scoring global blockbuster ASIB abs worldwide success HOG, and being nominated for a Best Actress Oscar makes zero sense. Talk about trying to cherry pick the least meaningful metric and trying imbue it with meaning it does not have. Simply put there is no metric or person on earth who can argue against Gaga having absolutely smashed it in film, vs Britney’s lone failed effort.

what this really comes down to is you love Britney. I love her too. But your arguments are so weak I feel silly even bothering to counter.
