And she’s damn good in the movie, she deserved it. If anything I’d snub Kidman, I can’t believe she was nominated everywhere with that role (and she’s probably winning??) Just because she hadn’t slotted into any of the big name shows doesn’t mean she was not finding success elsewhere. Cruz didn’t steal a spot from anyone. This wasn’t Gaga’s spot, it was just a spot. ManuelColon 702 Posted February 8, 2022 Share Posted February 8, 2022 Penelope was always in contention, before nominations started coming out she was one of the most expected, but after nobody nominated her she faded in the background, although people still REALLY wanted her to be nominated and at the end the clear support for her performance showed up in the Oscars. She also is in a Spanish talking role in a film from Spain that wasn't even submitted for International Film, most award bodies don't really nominate international roles (aside from BAFTA). Anyone suggesting that she got in because of her ethnicity (Slovakialop, for example) probably has not seen the film to make that kind of weird leap. Nicole on the other hand is in contention with one of her least good performances. Penelope should've taken up Nicole's spot in all the awards nomination lists. Gaga is an enormous talent and her peers and the public recognize that.
