Would you prefer the biopic to stop before Michael's skin lightened then? Assuming you'd be against a white man playing the role from that point, for obvious reasons.

I think the casting will depend on the scope of the film. If it spans his life post-90s, they might even need two actors to play Michael because of his skin condition - one black actor, one white actor. But I can imagine casting a white actor would cause a lot of controversy, even if Michael did 'look' white in his last two decades. I guess they could lighten the skin of a black actor but that, too, has difficult implications that I can't imagine any film studio would really want to indulge. 

The solution will probably be to stop the film prior to the whitening of Michael's skin... but that then leaves a huge gaping hole in the film in that it would never recognise or tackle the child sexual assault claims, which again, I don't think any film studio would risk in 2022. Can you imagine the outrage if an MJ film doesn't include that? Tricky.

It's a tricky subject to approach (his skin color). They definitely should not cast a white actor, it'd be easy enough to use makeup and effects to have a black actor go through vitiligo.

At the same time, it'd be easy enough to just gloss over it  they have a black actor playing 1992 MJ for the musical (that I can't wait to go see ) and they don't put him in "white face" (can't think of another way to say it ).

My main concern is how much there is to cram into a two hour documentary

His childhood, the Jackson 5, leaving Motown and The Jacksons, his solo career/the Victory Tour, Thriller, buying the Beatles catalogue, We Are the World, Bad, his second family in the Culkins, the good times at Neverland, Dangerous, the tours, the allegations (thank god the creator did his proper research there), his addictions, the anger and paranoia that spawned HIStory, his spat with Sony after Invincible, the second set of allegations and his acquittal, his other family in the Cascios (and their professional relationship as well), This Is It, and his death...and like...that's barely scratching the surface

You need two hours for each decade at least

We need a miniseries

Otherwise a lot of context for a lot of things is sure to get lost

Well the creator specifically investigated the allegations against Mike so we know it's at least going into the mid-1990s.

There's got to be a tasteful way to portray vitiligo on a black actor but I think it's a risk no matter what they do.

Cast a white actor and you risk whitewashing one of the most important black men in entertainment.

Cast a black actor and you risk losing his skin disorders, and appearance as a whole, as a plot point.

Cast a black actor and do him up with makeup to appear like vitiligo and eventually totally white skin and...it's complicated
