rasclautmangos 2,746
I'm a little bummed for Gaga, but its really not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. We have to accept that she won't be nominated for everything she does and I'm sure she'll be acting for many years to come.

Especially Bafta, who's usually more high-brow than the Oscar. She did well in this film I think, but why don't Academy voters root for her this time if they can root for ASIB? Also NYFCC has no issue awarding her. So many confusion It was a really competitive year and Balfe is in the same situation: hit every single precursor, was likely in the top 2 at BAFTA, and still got snubbed. I suspect there were a lot of factors...Gaga not campaigning that much (most of her press was pre release), some of her soundbites (again, though, it shows how f*cked up the film industry is that people don't blink at Javier defending Woody a lot but lose it on Gaga), the negative media barrage at Gaga that most probably didn't pick up on outside of film twitter/stan twitter...but it didn't help either, some people not taking her that seriously due to her being a pop star, and the film having mixed reviews. Moreover, Gaga and Hudson have not been in the industry that long or have done many movies so they don't have a lot of colleagues who would vote for them no matter what...I also wonder if MGM shifted too much onto Haim when they should have been focusing on Hudson and Gaga... But at the end of the day I think it just comes down to it being a super competitive year.

Alexmeishaonv 210
As a fan, I was so mad watching the live stream, and i’m still very disappointing about the result. But as driven as Gaga, she will be all fired up for her future projects and she will for sure get all the recognition and applause from the industry. I don't know if fans are ready for her to go deep in her actor career path but that is what she must do. She'll have more luck in supporting roles imo. I also think she needs to avoid awards bait for a year or two.

Arloway 147
The Catriona Balfe snub is more outrageous than Gaga I think. At least we already know HoG is not that good of a film and won't bring anything else to Gaga. But Belfast, one of the top BP contenders, and Catriona hitting all 4 precursors replaced by Judi Dench in the same movie...like what's going on within the Ampas circle? Ruth (even though she missed SAG) and Catriona honestly shocked me more...particularly Catiriona.

Then again, no matter how nasty some critics are snubbing them (NYFCC is a critics award) is probably not a good idea. She totally should go to the NYFCC dinner and serve A Look. Their people went hard for her against film twitter, and had zero qualms about awarding her when most are pretentiously snooty. They didn't care and did what they wanted. It's her hometown too. IDK, I think she'll attend at least because she's a NYC girl.
REALITY 77,666
I'm disappointed, but not surprised. Honestly, I'm shocked that so many of you guys are. There were a lot of great performances this year and let's be honest, House of Gucci is not the critical darling that a lot of people thought it would be. Gaga's performance was amazing, but this is not the end of the world. Let's stop being dramatic about it. This is only her second major acting gig, she has plenty of chances to win an Oscar in the future. 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔪𝔲𝔰𝔦𝔠'𝔰 𝔤𝔬𝔫𝔫𝔞 𝔟𝔯𝔦𝔫𝔤 𝔪𝔢 𝔟𝔞𝔠𝔨 𝔣𝔯𝔬𝔪 𝔡𝔢𝔞𝔱𝔥
HIM820 1,847
I’ve seen some level headed film people explain they believe the voting block may have suspected Gaga was a definite nomination, thus spreading their votes to other nominees (Stewart) because they truly don’t know how the whole body will think. This has 100% happened in the past, I believe as recently as Jennifer Lopez with Hustlers. I remember reading the exact same thing- that they expected her to be nominated. I secretly hope she starts thinking about doing a play or musical on Broadway. Once you garner that respect, it’s easier with some acting critics going forward. It doesn’t always work, but I believe seeing her act live would be thrilling.
