Different opinions are important but the issue is when you keep giving a platform to dangerous misinformation it’s gone beyond that. You must recognize that.

Bill Maher is an example of someone who has given a platform to “different opinions” - but he challenges them and notes when something is clearly ridiculous.

Joe Rogan has agreed and made insane remarks in the past. He is not better than some of the people he brings on.

Having a balanced discussion isn’t about having someone speak facts and reason and the other speaking misinformation and lies. That’s insanity.

People these days seem to think giving a platform to lies is being “fair.” These people wouldn’t be given the time of day in the past. Unfortunately the Internet can give a voice to anyone.

We can say the same thing for Oprah then? She gave platform to Anti-Vaccine Pseudoscience

https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2018/01/how-oprah-helped-spread-anti-vaccine-pseudoscience/

https://www.vox.com/science-and-health/2018/1/9/16868216/oprah-winfrey-pseudoscience

But we don't hear people talk about that? :oprah:

Joe Rogan does give platform to some people who believe conspiracy theories as fact, it should be stated that such a show would be okay if he put a disclaimer at the start of the show saying something like " information in this show may not be backed by scientific proof, etc). Just like we have pegi ratings for games and movies

The concern that free speech can incite more deaths, because of dangerous information is very legit but also very dangerous to certain rights we take for granted. Do we want Big Tech and authorities monitor everything we say and do?

yes i agree, but censorship is a double edged sword.

it might seem like the right thing to do now with vaccines but we are normalizing a very dangerous precedent for the future.

in the past there was always a group of conspiracy theorists or even other crazy people that tried to bend the truth to fit their agenda but we learnt how to deal with it.

who will decide what is "misinformation" and what is not in the future? it will not be us but a very small group of people that we are allowing that privilege now.

censorship or straight up erasing other's peoples views is never ok in the long run and it's not the answer.

Maybe it would just be easier to know if you're going to be doing more controversial topics...have 2 guests on instead of 1 and each of them be from "opposing" viewpoints so there's no "bias"

i edited cause im not sure how many episodes have those comments tbh, and the article says episodes so it's gotta be more than one

My hair stylist told me one day her family was taking Ivermectin because Joe Rogan did when he got Covid :bear: So I believe there's at least one episode pushing that nonsense.

That was the last time I went there

Misinformation in terms of the pandemic is clear cut.

Those of us who have listened to the scientists have not been surprised by anything. Not the vaccines, not Omicorn. This pandemic is SO predictable and so is human behavior.

The fact we are sitting here 2 years later still discussing misinformation is beyond sad.

Cameltoe Chariot

Genuinely shocked to see so many people in here defending this racist, sexist, conspiracy theory shilling pig.

There are video compilations of him saying the n word in radio/podcast interviews for f*ck’s sake.

and i agree with you 100% as i said when it comes to the pandemic and the vaccines of course! i can't express this enough.

i insist, In this particular case it might seem reasonable to do so ( with this person Joe Rogan) but what happens next? We are handing to Facebook, spotify and other companies the power to censor and basically erase everything that it doesn't fit their agenda or the interests of some groups of people.

we don't want all the information to be filtered throughout the interests of companies and others.

Ideally you should have all the information in front of you (good, bad and ridiculous) and then DECIDE for yourself.

I know it's frustrating i wish all the people would just get the vaccines, and boosters and leave this mess behind as soon as possible. But i understand not every person in the world have the same background as me, the same education, religion so i'm not expecting them to share my opinions regarding this subject, i wish of course but it doesn't work like that.

imagine an alternate reality where people think the vaccines are bad and everytime someone tries to say the opposite they get silenced. It can happen in lots of scenarios in the future that's why is so important to protect freedom of speech right now and not normalize being silenced.

i am sure people in North Korea would rather have way too much information than what the government is feeding them right now.

That's why i think it's totally valid and important that spotify in this case added a warning to the content of this podcast.

i am NOT defending this person, i literally just find out about him because of this mess btw.

but yes, we should have a honest conversation of censorship totally apart from the pandemic and the vaccines because i think is worthy.

Isn’t the guy who helped create the mRNA technology just on a vendetta because he was previously not given enough credit for something?

I don’t have a horse in this race because I got the vaccine and that’s that (I also don’t watch Joe Rogan) but don’t assume it’s not misinformation or comes from a place of bias just because he helped invent the vaccine.
