Yeah, Carey was cast ages ago.

I love Carey, but this is going to get messy. There was some criticism about Sorkin casting Bardem as a Cuban...enough that it made the Daily Beast and other outlets to the point Sorkin had to respond. Yes, Desi Arnaz was a white Cuban and there are obvious cultural ties between Spaniards like Javier Bardem and Arnaz, but the lack of opportunities for Latinos in Hollywood (even white Latinos, although they have it better) is an issue and casting non-Latinos as Latinos (even white Latinos) definitely invites controversy...especially in 2022. People didn't care 20 years ago (Madonna as Evita Peron, etc.) but they sure do today....

Jake G had planned to cast Ana de Armas (he even talked about it an interview). Bradley...Bradley cast a white Englishwoman as a Costa Rican who grew up in Chile. And I LOVE Carey (she's one of my favorite actresses) but there's been mild criticism before because she auditioned (knowingly) for a role that was meant for a Latina and they later changed it to fit her (in Drive). Taking this role is just going to bring up that past issue....

Anyway, this looks like an interesting project but I suspect it's going to get a lot of negative PR over this issue to the point it might even impact its awards chances....I've already seen people talking about it on twitter and it isn't the sort of thing that is just going to remain on twitter imo (especially since mainstream media covered the Bardem thing a lot)

I know, I said that in the comment too... I just think she’s going for the classic hollywood movie star path...
