A lot of companies aren’t requiring their employees to get vaccinated though. 🤔 If you boycott all those places you’d hardly be able to shop or eat anywhere.

Starbucks isn’t gonna help the world out of the pandemic, not when Africa is only 10% vaccinated (due to lack of vaccine access).

Umm  what? If Africa has no access to vaccines it means it's fine that people who have access to them to act like idiots and just do away with all requirements? What kind of argument is that? Breakouts will still happen because of Starbucks' (and other capitalist enteprises that only care about their capital and profit) decision that will lead to more cases, more spread, and a more prolonged pandemic. Let's just throw blame on lack of access and put away our masks and lift all measures while we're at it no?

No I’m saying the more important big picture problem and where we should be focusing our concern and effort at this point is how do we get vaccines to the rest of the world, not being outraged at what Starbucks is or isn’t doing regarding mandates.

May I ask why Gagadaily seems to adore the concept of vaccine mandates? I am a huge fan of vaccines (triple dosed, volunteer vaccinator, annoy friends who are not vaccinated, actively combat antivax info), but I don't think current research has shown vaccine mandates to be at all helpful. Vaccines are still very useful at preventing severe illness and hospitalisation, but not incredibly effective at preventing infection and transmission (currently suffering from Omicron myself, and had Delta back in September despite already being double vaccinated), and natural immunity provides robust protection at a level comparable with vaccination by these metrics.

What the Danish, French, and British Omicron waves have shown is that a higher level of vaccination doesn't really make a difference in the size of the wave in terms of case numbers, but it does make the wave less deadly; the benefits of vaccination are overwhelmingly felt by the vaccinated individual rather than on a population level. And one of the few benefits of the largely private healthcare in the US is that an antivaxer in intensive care does not really burden the State.

The US already has a huge wall of protection against severe disease and death on a population level due to vaccination and natural immunity, so I'm not sure what a mandate will achieve other than deepen social strife. Research in the UK, which is probably the closest to the US in terms of a belief in bodily autonomy (UK doesn't even have any mandatory childhood vaccinations, unlike much of its European neighbours), has shown that the vast majority of people yet to receive the vaccine are not militant antivaxers but people with genuine concerns or underlying mental/emotional issues, and these people are likely to be further put off if vaccination is mandated.

The problems in the US are that the antivax movement is much louder and active than that in the UK and that vaccination itself is a much more politicised issue than in the UK, but I don't see how a vaccination mandate helps with either.
