Laws like this are designed to erase our history. There’s nothing more to it. Conservatives would love to whitewash all history because the truth about the United States and its history contradicts their American exceptionalism theory in which they base their political ideologies on at the moment.

this is probably one of the most blatantly racist bills i have ever read about and it is very clear what they are trying to accomplish here.

I don't think it's automatically racist to want to stop white people from feeling discomfort. It would be racist if this bill set out to stop the teaching of black history. It doesn't. It proposes - I think - to teach it in a way that's more 'palatable' to white people, which is - as I have already said - close to censorship and ridiculous. But I don't think it's inherently racist... it's definitely right-wing and populist, in that it tries to 'appeal' to the majority of the voting population in the US: white people. But that's politics and democracy. The majority always win. 

Don't get me wrong here by the way: I'm not agreeing with the bill. I'm just trying to understand it for what it is.

Please don't allow yourself to be fooled into thinking laws like this would be applied sensibly. They are being put in place to end the education of U.S. children about racism in this country. It's goal is to reduce curricula to American propaganda.

Racism goes beyond some idiot using a slur or decades old human rights violations. It's literally built into the fabric of our society.

Segregation is still real and plainly obvious. My town and hundreds of others have a "black and white part of town".

Black families have lower earnings than white families on average so the tax revenue used to fund the schools in "their part of town" is far lower than neighborhoods near them which leads to worse education for black Americans, fewer opportunities for them, lower earnings, rinse and repeat.

In my town there's two high schools. One was like 80% white, the other was almost all black. The "white school" has duel enrollment opportunities, trade school opportunities, certification classes (like CPR, adobe, beginning construction and welding, etc), newer text books, multiple computer labs, home economics class, and even a class about taxes, homeownership, and general adult things. The works. I went to this school and walked out with certs and went right into college.

The "black school"? Well, they had a daycare on campus and a bunch of fast food restaurants nearby for the juniors and seniors to work close to school. That's it. My sisters went to this school.

Bills like DeSantis' here ensure that this pattern of oppression continues  white people SHOULD feel uncomfortable about all this. Fellow Americans are being oppressed right under their noses and they're the ones that elected the Repugnants that keep this system afloat.

Absolutely! And ppl still dont understand the amount of roadblocks u can inherit growing up. Even if the word is "less racist" (LOL) now than before u can still feel the passed down effects for multiple generations cuz breaking cycles is difficult

 

The irony is that in my city where I live the white ppl are the ones that live in the slums and poor areas while the POC (mostly immigrants) live in the newer and more expensive parts of the city but an usual combination of dynamics caused that.

 

I think were the only city like that in the area cuz if i told someone in the Toronto metro that whites dominate the slums and immigrants the nice neighbourhoods theyd instantly know which suburb i was from
