Gaga to star in Cabaret directed by Bradley Cooper

Here in London we have an incredible revival of Cabaret with Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley (they are both phenomenal). I've seen the show twice and it is so different from the usual stage version (the Sam Mendes version), which means that with the right vision there could be a film that is completely different from the original (which was already different to the stage play) and would be worth doing. Bradley visited the show a couple of weeks ago, at first I thought they might be considering him to take over from Redmayne but this could also be the reason.

Legitimate casting news (unless it's Marvel/SW/certain types of horror/sci fi related) almost always comes from Variety, THR, The Wrap, Deadline, or Indiewire. Geek nation may be sort of reliable in terms of sci fi/marvel/horror, but in terms of a project like this...no.

And Bradley has the biopic he's been working on for ages....I can't see him following that up with a Cabaret remake when he already remade ASIB. I could see Gaga starring in a brief Broadway run of Cabaret (Emma Stone has done so).

TBH I think it's way more likely that he and Gaga could do a Broadway/West End version than a film. He has that biopic he's working on and the idea of him doing another remake seems...unlikely. Plus, as you said, it's pretty common for various stars to star in stage versions of Cabaret (such as Eddie and Jessie, or Emma Stone several years back). I suspect a film version would be met with a lot of criticism.

Worried she'd get dinged for playing roles by Steisand and then Liza. Seems a little too on the nose.

I think if she did a stage version, there would be little criticism. There have been so many different  stage versions of Cabaret with big stars...film would be another story.

I’d love to see it, it’d be a dream. But the remake trend in Hollywood has grown stale.. the comparisons would rule every review, conversation etc.

Why is everyone acting like this is the only movie or the last movie Gaga's gonna do? :bear:

"Why not an original movie? Why not a horror movie?" Well, b-tch, she can still do those AND this one too.

This can be one of 5 movies that she stars on in the next 3 years! As long as it's more Gaga content that she's amazing at, who gives a sh-t? Bring it on!

She would annhiliate a burlesque/cabaret role.

Also, I'm imagining casting and it seems like they'd have to cast a gay actor in the Michael York role, which would actually be a great opportunity for a gay actor to play a male lead in a major studio film. That part isn't a singing role. So, it could really be cast with a pretty wide range of actors. I know there is some chatter about whether the Emcee needs to be a queer casting, but I think if the co-lead is queer, you could maybe get away with casting Andrew Garfield or Harry Styles as the Emcee, both of which I would love to see. Bradley should definitely not star in either of those roles. Personally, I think Harry and Andrew could slide, especially Harry as he is pretty femme presenting regardless of if he is straight or not.

EDIT: Olly Alexander would also be a fabulous (and queer) Emcee.

She has already proven herself in House of Gucci and various other acting roles her versatility.

To star in Cabaret honestly is more different than anything she's ever done.

Wtf, I discovered Schitt's Creek a month ago (and already watched all 6 seasons 4 times already :awkney: ) where they also do Cabaret, and now Gaga is rumored to star in a movie reenacting that musical? What a full circle moment of mine  .

Love that journey for me :diane:

I hope not. In the film, Liza Minnelli is PER****SHUN. Do you hear me?

But, if they were to remake it, Ezra Miller for Emcee!

I agree... I feel like she's kind of proven herself AND film twitter, at least, is forever going to be snarky asf (and some critics) even if she snatches up a million awards...they aren't going to suddenly adore her if she does some gritty drama.

So Gaga should do whatever she wants be in Marvel or a stage show or even a Cabaret movie (tho I still think a new version is a meh idea regardless of who is involved).

Gaga was actually asked in an interview about her dream role and she said it's Cabaret. The role would fit her perfectly and a whole new generation could get into Cabaret. I don't like remakes at all I think they're horrible and unnecessary 99% of the time but this role would fit her SO WELL.

I'd like this but maybe in 5 years? Would be nice to see Bradley direct and not act and I've always wanted to hear Gaga sing songs from Cabaret but I'd like her in a supporting actress role in an original film next
