He certainly was not as famous as MJ worldwide, but probably was in England. When Taylor toured in London she invited the local artist Robbie Williams to do a song with her on stage. From this video you can see her surprise at his immense popularity there. When they hug at the end she is still surprised and says OMG. I love this video. I wish he would tour in America.
