Theres always a huge margin for error in these estimates but they have their models they follow Here in Canada were at 40,000 daily but the current estimates are that real cases are 5X higber factoring in asymptomatic + very low symptomatic that dont seek tests, counting the people that cant get tests due to backlogue and factoring in false negatives fromrapid tests for people whos viral load doesnt reach high enough for those home kits to detect and that dont end up getting a standard PCR test That would make the 40,000 closer to 200,000 in reality if their estimates are right But Canada has less hospital ICU beds per capita than the US. Despite being a better system in many ways it does have its flaws including capacity. Its suppostu still mostly protect against severe disease and unvaxxed are still way more likely to end up critical and in hospital However there is a partial evation with new variant so most ppl still get sick at least partially.
