"Be fruitful and multiply", Genesis 1:28. Sadly a lot of people still embrace this as a religious commandment, regardless of how finite the world turns out to be.

Even from that perspective, though... I can't help but feel that the appropriate response is "Mind your own business." I never have understood people who try to push other people into parenthood, but there are a lot of them.

A far right very anti-liberal channel I follow is also against what this pope is saying. The one thing that can bring the right and left together is their pets.

I always find it funny how the church is always criticizing all types of family structures yet they don't have any.

Hypocrisy at its most blatant.

As a gay man, I would LOVE to have a kid or two one day! Whether it’s via surrogacy or adoption, I’ve really changed my attitude towards having kids, whereas before I never desired them. Unfortunately, I don’t think I could bring new kids into this world. With climate change, automation, rising income and wealth inequality, decreasing economic opportunity, political and social instability, moral decay, an eroding and corrupt culture, and a fraying social fabric makes this world increasingly frightening to live in.

The progression of technology and the imperialization of it in everyday life has truly altered our lives for the worse, not better. We have become addicted to our gadgets (as have I) and the psychological well-being of our youth is deteriorating in huge part because of it. This is what happens when technology evolves faster than we have as a species!! I wouldn’t want my kids to end up like the teens of today. Our future is so bleak.

I disagree with the automation comment

However excluding that, i feel the same way. I used to not like the idea of kids but as more and more of my youth passes i start to feel like a child would give some meaning and purpose for a part of me (in a mannor of speaking) to carry on instead of just waiting to age and die

However the ever deteriorating economic conditions and other problems make me not so sure

Then again if u adopt, u adop someone thats already into this world anyway and is gonna have to live thru it whether they are adopted or not so as far as adoption is concerned i guess the state of the world isnt a factor, they are already here so

Pets are less expensive and more fulfilling to me than children, so no thanks Mr pope :vegas:

Um.. but kids are terrible.

Honestly. Children are these little things that depend on you and cause havoc and ruin your whole entire life. For most people, once you have children your life ends and you become just a parent.

You are not given life purely to give more life. There are other things you must want to do.

Pets are unconditional love, they are not going to have drug dealers, debt, vandalism invading your life. You don't get stretch marks from having a dog, you get limitless joy.

Also, this coming from the pope is like the police saying we need more criminals, or an alcoholic saying we need more vodka in the house. Vile.

And we're vastly over populated.

Loser.

Hmm maybe he could give his Church money to all the people who can't possibly afford to have a good life, much less putting a kid in this world.

Has he really forgotten that he himself made the decision not to have his own children? :awkney:

he has forgotten that he's a virgin who can't drive and he's over 80 years old yet wanna judge people who have a home with beautiful dogs, cook, clean drive, have a life, laugh, dance together, have sex, kiss and have a beautiful loving life. He's bitter
