Grammys have been officially postponed

As expected, the Grammy Awards have been postponed indefinitely due to coronavirus-related concerns, an Academy spokesperson has confirmed to Variety. No new date has been confirmed as of yet.

While the 2022 show had been moving full speed ahead to take place on Jan. 31 before a full audience at its traditional venue, the Crypto.com Arena (formerly known as the Staples Center) in downtown Los Angeles, the recent Covid-19 surge has caused the postponement or cancellation of multiple events across the country. Sources tell Variety that even though the Crypto.com Arena has a basketball or hockey game or a concert booked nearly every night until mid-April, enough artists and executives voiced reluctance about appearing to convince the Academy to postpone the show.

I don't care that much but, idk surely award shows are one of the easiest things to do safely? Everyone has an allocated seat, only specific people are invited, everything's on a strict schedule. They're all rich and can afford to get tests. I don't get what the problem is.

This is so unnecessary…. just do what you did last year??? COVID was way worse a year ago as far as safety goes.. this seems like there might be something else going on behind the scenes or something

i'm not an event organizer but it might be more about staff concerns, because like we see with schools rn a lot of people/teachers are getting sick all at once and they just don't have enough people.

So all those people won't be traveling to all corners of the world for various reasons during this month? And I am sure that none of those same artists and executives will be attending half of the concerts, basketball games or hockey matches scheduled at the same damn arena, right? And covid is the actual reason they can't get together for one night for an awards ceremony?

Why are people mad about this :ladyhaha: like it’s just a bunch of rich people awarding each other - nothing to be upset about.

Even tho omicron isn’t as severe, it’s infecting more people at once, which is going to have more breakthrough cases, more spreading, more of it all. A more contagious variant can be just as dangerous as a more severe variant.

Also, all of you bitching because they are postponed, don’t we come here all the time talking about how the Grammys ain’t s**t!? Lol
