SevenWonder 4,743
I'm a huge tennis and sports fan. Novak is the most unlikable athlete in the world. Even before his anti-vax nonsense. This just makes him even more hated. He wanted to have his cake (anti-vax) and eat it too (play in the Aussie Open). I'm thrilled the Aussie government sent him home. Though I fear he'll find some way to worm his way back in.
CautiousLurker 19,709
So, dose he have an actual medical exemption or is he just an antivaxx moron? I'm hoping for the former but am afraid its the latter Spoiler I'll have to keep my hots for him a secret It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke! Why they even call him to play, if thay dont wont to let him in, idiotic. he just wouldn't even come to play. I have taken three vaccines so far, and i can say after one year we can totaly see that vaccine is not working...every time with new varient we are in even worse situation Your anecdotal evidence regarding the efficacy of the vaccine means nothing to anyone. The Australian government has rules in place if you want to enter their country. Whether you're a famous athlete, Lady Gaga, or an ordinary citizen, you need to comply with those rules. Novak was able to cheat his way through the tennis powers that be (with his so-called "exemption") yesterday, but not the Australian Federal government today. Novak clearly didn't prove to them that his medical exemption was good enough to pass muster. That might change tomorrow, of course. But good for Australia to not succumb to rich people doing typically rich people hypocritical things and expecting to get away with it.

Stop spreading misinformation. The vaccine prevents you of dying from the disease, not getting it the scars on my mind are on replay.

The state of Victoria and the Australian Tennis Federation gave him a very, very suspect (read: shady af) medical exemption. But that has nothing to do with Australian's Federal border control, which usurps what Victoria may have allowed. He came to Australia hoping that the medical exemption he received from the tennis folks was enough to get him through the Federal red tape. Novak gambled in this regard. He assumed his star power would allow him entry. And, clearly, that didn't happen. At least not yet.

Most assume Novak's "exemption" was a positive Covid test within the last six months (the easiest exemption to receive). Many in the know assumed Novak may have lied or fudged his documents somehow about such a diagnoses. Given what happened today? Those assumptions were clearly correct - at least in some capacity. As to the other player exemptions and why the were still allowed in? One can assume their was nothing shady about how those exemptions were given out. Presumably, the did, in fact, get Covid in the last six months and have the paperwork to prove that. And if that's the case? Case closed. Exemption granted. Easy as pie.
