Antartica Ozone Layer Hole Finally Fully Closed

This thread is misleading. OP makes it seem like it finally closed for the first time in decades, when they just meant it closed for the year. The October 7, 2021 ozone hole was the 13th largest since 1979 and it closed later than 95 percent of ozone holes in all other years. This is still good though. I  just hope we can get to pre-1970’s levels in my lifetime.

It likely will open up a few more times before closing permanently. Theres certain seasons where it tends to be more prone to grow

Oh i read that wrong then. I thought longer than 95% of other holes was refering to other holes in the ozone layer that opened up since 1979 (in other spots) and that 95% of them opened up after that date and still closed before antarticas 

 

i didnt realize they meant the same hole in different years 🤦‍♂️

Its also worth noting this hole could spuradically re-appear before fully closing permanently as the strength of the ozone layer fluctuates with temperature (because of chemical reactions) and air flows etc

 

Its the first time the hole closed completely which is great news but the size of it is also seasonal. I suspect it will reopenat certain times of the year for several more years but probably smaller each time and less thin

I did a google search and couldn’t find much about this ozone layer closing. Is it a fact or fake news?

No its a fact but its just not as big of a deal as i thought tbh

 

I misunderstood something in the article, i thought it was saying this hole took longer to close than 95% of other holes (in the ozone) but really they meant longer than 95% other times for this same hole

 

U see the hole closes and reopens by the seasons because temperature fluctuations which affect chemical reactions with the chorine and the oxygen O3 bonds. I knew of this fluctuation but i didnt realize the hole usually closed completely every year, i thought it just shrank or if it closed it was still thin but i was mistaken

 

So turns out this news isnt that groundbreaking my apologies
