Anyway, you can tell that she's not influenced by gaga, she doesn't have her sense of self or attitude and the philosophies of life and performance are very different too, even though of course the type of macabre sensibilities, darkness and commitment that gaga brought to the mainstream in early 2010's allowed an artist like billie to be accepted, as it is now something view as cool and edgy if you have a pretty face like hers, people were really afraid of gaga back then, and tried to bring her down a lot, she was very off-putting, not someone you trust at first. the fact you just made a whole ass passage for nothing is so funny to me it's not that serious everyone has preferences. I hardly listen to gaga anymore and would probably consider her one my top 5 influential artists rather than number one because personally for me artists like lorde, florence and the machine ,daughter ,joy division and grimes had more impact in my life than gaga but that doesn't mean i hate her or feel like not liking gaga is considered uncool. The same goes for billie So much time on the other side Waiting for you to wake up So much time on the other side Waiting for you to wake up

I'm really wondering because Gaga was the most influential (even for other pop girls) during that time... As mentioned by others, she's only mentioned her a couple times - once to make fun of the meat dress and call it disgusting, and then one other time to thank her for flowers she sent her. To be honest the cold reaction Gaga gets from Billie reminds me of how Avril Lavigne reacted to Britney as she blew up. The public saw Avril as the antithesis to what pop had been up until her debut: a massive spectacle with huge choreographed videos and costumes. Avril represented the end of that in pop and a shift to live band instrumentation, singer/songwriter lyrics and more simplistic music videos. But with that shift eventually people missed the spectacle that Britney and her contemporaries represented, and Gaga was the one that brought back an elevated, high-concept version of that (and forever changed pop music because of it!). Billie is now the Avril in this modern scenario... just elevated. So it makes sense that she'd turn her nose up at Gaga and her impact. Billie has also said that she looks up to Avril in the past so...

She's the most overhyped artist of the last several years and that's sayin something! I just don't get her appeal at all. My niece liked her first album but when I recently asked about her thoughts on her new album she said it was boring. Olivia Rodrigo is far more talented. maybe it’s because you aren’t her audience. it’s funny because madonna fans were saying the exact same thing about gaga. that she’s overhyped, untalented, and nowhere near madge’s impact. i think it’s time for you to learn that just because you don’t get something, doesn’t mean it’s bad. maybe it’s just not for you. AJRocketMan 2,684
We already knew this. Eilish is a hodge-lodge of the alternative pop artists of the 2010s (Lana del Rey, Marina & The Diamonds, Lorde, Halsey, Melanie Martinez, & BANKS) which is why I was never impressed by her, because I’ve seen and heard her style before. It’s one thing to have influences but another to copy and paste. Billie does the latter, not the former.

Absolutely agreed Anyone trying to claim Billie is talentless, overhyped or unimpressive needs to take another look... or stop lying to themselves. She's one of the biggest talents of her generation and will be around for a long time. Happier Than Ever was sorely mismanaged and it's rollout made me think it was going to be an absolute bomb. Once it came out and I listened to it from beginning to end I realized that she had not only topped her previous release, but had created one of the best songs of the year with the title track as well. While no artist ever creates in a vaccum, it's very apparent that she appropiated a lot from 10s alternative pop (her aesthetic) and to lesser extend, from 00s pop-punk and 90s hip hop (her clothes and blackaccent). but mainly, the 2010s alternative girls like Lana, Melanie, Marina paved the way for Billie to even be a thing in mainstream. To being with, in terms of musical style, Billie is a complete byproduct of Lorde. The minimalistic and 'futuristic' vibe, lots of repetition and lyrics portraying alternative themes is something Billie borrowed directly and evidentely from Lorde's 2014 Pure Heroine. Billie also grew up to Lana's music and it shows because there are traces of Lana's Born To Die and Ultraviolence attitude all over Billie's music. There is also a parallel between this new sexy aesthetic Billie embraced, coupled with 'creepy' and cinematic videos of her earlier careeer that are reminiscent of Melanie Martinez. She is taking these anti-pop, cool, 'deep-spoken', angsty approach to music and re-packaging for the radio. Marina sang about feeling suicidical wanting to be a bottle blonde in Teen Idle (a pre-Tik Tok generational anthem for the Gen Z), Billie took notes from this and you can see it in her style and aesthetic. People thought were being cool for listening to a so-called underground artist like Billie in 2018-2019 (when her songs were literally being spammed on the radio). People were cool for listening to Lana, Marina, Lorde and Melanie back in the early 2010s, and more authentically because they were way less promoted. I think female artists appear to copy the same themes because they can all relate to them. It was natural for Billie to become the stereotypical bottle blonde for a brief period because a lot of girls go through this phase when they're finding themselves. Billie is a breath of fresh air because of how natural and real she is while she's growing up in the public eye. And I don't think she's false for having songs about suicide because a lot of young people in her generation suffer with anxiety and depression. It's very likely she has suffered with it too so why shouldn't she share her perspective. Billie is a very switched on person who observes the world around her. I feel like it's unfair to not give her credit for that. I think the only thing connecting her to these other female artists is that they all write their lyrics in a diarist way. And they're not known for liking anything meat-related, let alone a dress made out of it . And what exactly let's you....tell that she's that type of person? Also, what's wrong with not liking Gaga? I heard there are people on this very planet who do not like her either 😱 No, not all vegans mocked Gaga's meat dress. Only one did. A famous child singer that wears leather. The thing is, I like Billie. But I can accept that she does not consider herself a fan of Gaga's. I can also accept that Billie is a hypocrite for endorsing clothing brands that use leather - and wearing leather herself - yet being a vegan at the same time. (this has nothing to do with Billie's comments about Gaga's meat dress- only Billie's actions alone). Calling yourself a vegan and then wearing leather is completely incompatible. Billie stans need to get over the fact that she WAS a child singer, very much a puppet of her producer-brother, even if she is not anymore, and she has made some very derogatory/privileged statements about hip hop culture and contradictory behaviours regarding the ethics of animal violence. She is old enough to be accountable for her actions. She doesn't need to be treated like a powerless baby by her stans. Calling yourself a vegan and then wearing leather is completely incompatible. i disagree that being vegan and wearing leather is hypocrite in itself, for example, if you already own leather clothing before, like there's nothing you can do about it, i think there's no point in stopping wearing them if you are vegan, unless you are too worried about what people would think of you or you consider that wearing animal clothing in itself it's offensive, personally i don't think it is as i wouldn't mind if someone not guilty of my murder wears my skin, but that's me, you can have your opinions, now another thing is actively buying leather after you become vegan, even if it's from a vintage shop, i don't know how billie manage this, so i can't judge. That's what i love the meat dress, besides the act of protest against inequality it was, it also serve to expose hypocritical thinking about veganism, as for sure, the way you present animal clothing impacts the way people perceive, even though essentially it's all the same no matter how bizarre and disgusting or pretty and cool it looks like.
