Tiktok is free and gen z are poor due to ecommerce putting most businesses under financial pressure. Thus they won't be subscribing to Spotify or Netflix.

The end.

Not surprising, look at the biggest content deals Netflix and Spotify did in recent times: Dave Chapelle and Joe Rogan, the textbook definitions of reactionary, boring ass boomers :rip:

Spotify and Netflix did a lot to "legitimize" and normalize streaming as an actual valid means of consumption, without keeping in mind that pandering to old people ain't really a proactive way in securing the up and coming generations as a user base LOL

I think this is mostly an attention span thing. Tik Toks are short and funny, which is what that generation gravitates towards. I don’t think they have the patience to watch television, movies, and listen to podcasts or full-length LPs. And if they’re not doing those they certainly ain’t reading for fun either.

EDIT: readING not readY!

spotify is a mess. after finding out how low their pay for artists is and how much easier customization/importing music is on apple music, i switched.

That's a pretty sad perspective for art. I doubt one can convey the content, emotions and meaning of a great movie or song in a TikTok.

And I don't care of that makes me a "boomer" or whatever ridiculous word people find for it:koons: it's just my personal opinion that it isn't good thing that parts of newer generations can't enjoy things that require attention, concentration and deliberate thinking.

i don't usually buy this argument. i (as someone from gen z) listen to a lot of full albums, and so do my friends. the problem is that new technology makes it easier for people to listen to individual songs. previously, casual listeners of music would be forced to buy an album from a store or buy the song online to listen to it, so they'd contribute monetarily to the music industry, but now tiktok exists... casual listeners don't have to spend a penny, as they can just hear the song on tiktok. it's just become easier for people who don't necessarily 'enjoy' music to avoid spending money on it.

likewise, the entertainment found on tiktok and social media has replaced long-form television and movies for many 'casual viewers' who are just looking for something to make them laugh or entertain them, so only people who avidly follow cinema or television are actually engaging with it. it's not an attention span problem, it's the fact that people who aren't 'fans' of longer content no longer are forced to consume it like before.

I’m using FB only because of my university, I wish I could leave this social media forever lol. and Instagram is still an important tool for a lot of creators, they can’t just leave it without losing their money and target audience.

I find it crazy, I'm 25 and when I was a student a few years ago, I was the only one in my class who didn't have a Facebook and I had to create one because the others couldn't be bothered to find other ways to communicate for group work. And now I see that younger people don't like Facebook, it changed so fast.

Well Spotify is annoying with the paid feature. They should just make it free without the 40 minute ads lol

As a Gen Z I agree. I can't find the time or the attention spam to watch lengthy movies and TV shows. I mostly watch anime or Youtube now. As far as movies go I just rewatch the same movies over and over again when I am extremely bored. Tiktok is great cause it quickly fuels up my little brain cells with serotonin :stalkga: :sara:

The funny thing about this topic is that it doesn't affect literature. I read like 13 books last year :classy:

Until then, this is Elvira saying unpleasant dreams.

Use Apple Music, they pay better to artists

although they should have already given the Handoff feature like Spotify (transition when playing the same song between different devices)

also Spotify (like TikTok or meta products) sell our data to third parties, which is really obnoxious as they already profit from premium subscriptions AND advertising

It is an attention span problem though, as short form media, as well as access to all forms of entertainment and information at your fingertips on a moment’s notice negatively affects your attention span. A short attention span is not good, as it will absolutely bleed into more important areas of your life. What if you need to find a new job? Look for a place to live? Pay your bills? Balance your monthly budget? Look for a doctor and a pharmacy? Schedule an appointment? File your tax returns? Acquire insurance? Clean your room? Cook a meal?

The lack of attention that you display in your free time doing fun things does bleed over into your real life when you have to complete important tasks. It certainly did with mine. Our actions and the decisions we make have consequences.
