I don't care about that. I care about the death rates because that tells us how bad the surge was. Daily numbers are scare tactic. Stop allowing unvaxed to receive treatment if you're worried about the system getting overload :ohwell:

What's so interesting about death rates? You can't base policy on death rates.

Because all indications are the omnicron is not as deadly as the previous variants. If less people die from this variant, then it's a sign we are moving toward covid becoming an endemic.

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

That's not an answer to my question. Why do you think we should look at death rates and not the level of hospitalization? How can we make policy based on death rates?

A bad figure, but unsurprising given the time of year and new variant not as well covered by the original vaccines. On the other hand, deaths and hospitalisations are still very low and aren't rising as much as the cases, obviously that might change in the coming weeks given the rise in cases. It's a difficult one, because putting the country on another lockdown is going to put many people and businesses out of work and put a strain on many peoples mental health, but it still needs to be contained to an extent, don't envy the people in charge. There has to be a point at which we treat this as a normal virus with its own death rate per year like we do Flu.

Its crazy out here at the moment, I know so many people who have it. I tested positive the other day, and thankfully it's very mild, but I'm going to have to spend Christmas isolating alone which really sucks.

Only stats that matter are number of hospitalizations / deaths and their vaccination status, as well as what governments are doing to mandate all to be vaccinated in order to relive healthcare systems.  Any other headline about “cases” is for sensationalism in order to get clicks.

Ok the UK is doing vastly more testing than many other countries are- the more you test, the more data you get. Either positive or negative.

The media in the UK is failing to understand this logic, and is simply pumping out terror messages 24/7- its been going on for weeks. I'm sure SAGE and the lockdown fanatics are delighted- they are walking Bozo into it.

if 1000's were heading to hospital as SAGE suggested ( like they've done before) then the NHS would have already collapsed. As I understand it hospitalizations are not increasing, deaths have fallen- even the BBC bothered to mention that.

This country is a basket case, the media has simply failed to provide any real balanced reporting on any if this.

The NHS is an amazing thing, the people who work in it are brilliant at what they do

Additionally this totally f******* awful government has been outed repeatedly for breaking rules they have forced us to live by- any attempt to impose any further restrictions is unlikely to be successful.

That's the beauty of discussions though. I will never agree with everything you say, but then when you put the Little Managers in their place, I'm like yaaasss daddy :gayhat:
