Can we please stop acting like she’d be getting any awards if her mom wasn’t Beyoncé? Like the extreme privilege & nepotism of rich people is sickening. I’m sure when she turns 20 & releases an album she’ll go on & on about how self made she is 🙄 the good thing that comes from bs like this though is that the lie “anyone can make it” bubble has been popped. Seriously look at any famous person today, they all come from money & privilege. Even Gaga despite how hard she tries to push the “I came from nothing” lie.

That‘s not what Gaga says. She literally thanked her family, the Germanottas, several times because THEY came from nothing and have given her the possibility to become whatever she wanted to become.

not racist but pressed over a child winning an award :madge:

anywaysss yass slay lil queen

You're right - I am pressed that a 9 year old won a Grammy through a writing credit technicality via her world famous mother; an award that music artists around the world dedicate their lives to just being nominated for, let alone actually winning.

Ok, I'm going to go there...

If this were the daughter of white parents, we'd hear the never ending story about how her white privilege, connections, and parents are responsible for her accomplishments. But instead, we hear praise while her parents -- two of the most egotistical in the industry -- encourage her to disrespect music's highest honor in the country, claiming they "don't care about the Grammys" yet seem to have a problem every time they're not nominated for one.

I'm so done with Beyonce, Jay-Z and their arrogance. I'll take Xtina and Mariah over them any day.

yea but at least with people like billie and gaga - money can only get you so far. it puts you in the right position, but Gaga herself is the reason why she’s still relevant. Blue Ivy is gonna have to have some pretty successful music if she doesn’t wanna just keep getting grammys because Beyoncé puts her as a co-writer on every song until she dies 🤣

While Gaga's family were middle/upper-middle class, their money had nothing to do with her success. The only thing it provided her was a private school education. She dropped out of college, moved out on her own, and supported herself almost entirely. Her music industry connections were made on her own, and had nothing to do with her parents -- unlike Lana and Taylor.

So when Gaga talked about cleaning toilets and go-go dancing to make a living while living on the LES trying to become famous -- it is true.

She went to NYU & got into Tisch School of the Arts… you realize how expensive that is? She was also allowed to take a year off from school & completely focus on her craft & who do you think paid for that? Certainly not Gaga alone with her go go dancing gig. They weren’t anywhere near “middle class” they were & still are upper class. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Gaga, she is an amazing artist, songwriter, actor & performer but to say she got there solely because of her 1 in a billion talent? Sorry no… statistically there are thousands of people more creative than her that simply did not have access to what she had. Does that mean she’s not deserving of her fame? No, of course not. She’s brilliant but I can’t pretend like privilege had nothing to do with it. That’s all, & I love her no more or less in light of that reality.

People really act like celebs are famous because they’re just so unbelievably talented that they must have been touched by God lmfao there are sooo many more talented & deserving people that should be successful & famous but they simply don’t have the privilege or access like every single famous person today has had.

There's a reason college debt is a problem: You don't need much money to get a loan to an expensive school. She said her father cut her off financially after she dropped out because he didn't support her decision to leave and pursue music. She lived in a dumpy apartment in Brooklyn that she paid for herself. There was an interview years ago where she went back to it (I think during MTN-era, since the video referenced the apartment).

The only thing Gaga's parents' money afforded her was a home to go back to if she got tired of trying to do her own thing.
