What odds though? She's been slaying and winning at life for 14 years and counting and everybody's raving about her performance, I still don't get it. If you mean the time when she got rejected from several auditions back when she was a teenager, then OK, let's beat the odds and win dat Oscar :ladyhaha:

Sorry you don’t get it. However I didn’t come here to defend an opinion I was asked to share.  Agree to disagree. Have a great day ;-)

I think it's obvious at this point that Gaga will get nominated, but a win doesn't seem likely. I hope they prove me wrong though, give our Queen her first acting Oscar! :vegas:

Also, the fact that Jodie Comer gave one of the best performances of the year and she's being completely overlooked is gross. :saladga:

Jodie will win next year for that biopic on Joséphine Bonaparte (it's the sort of role Oscar voters will lose their sh8t over)....well, unless Ridley f*cks it up. To be fair to Ridley, while he's very hit and miss (and more misses than hits)...his weaker films are still usually mixed or mixed positive and fresh on RT (like HOG, Covenant, etc.). But it's much harder to win an Oscar for a film that doesn't receive universal acclaim....then again, he could have another Martian or even LD (80s on RT).

I do think that unless Ridley completely fumbles the project she's going to get nominated, at the very least.

i think she’s got about an 80% shot of a nomination, there’s always a chance the oscar’s could pull a jennifer lopez and snub her last minute but i don’t really see it given that this would be her second acting nomination AND she’s already an academy award winner. i think she’s safe for a nomination!

as far as a win, I don’t really think she’s got a fighting chance, but it’s too early to see if Kristen’s frontrunner status holds through the end of the awards season (like Renee Zellweger’s in Judy) or ends up not pulling through (like Glenn Close for The Wife) and someone else (probably Chastain) wins. I’m personally pulling for Kristen out of the movies I have seen so far but I’ve yet to see Eyes of Tammy Fae, Licorice Pizza, The Lost Daughter, etc

I feel like Kristen or Olivia will win (even tho Olivia won only a few years ago). That said, Jessica has been campaigning like crazy....I love her, but she's been really thirsty lately....so she could come through.

She's 100% nominated, media would blow up if she wasn't (not that that means much tho lol). I think Stewart, Hudson, Coleman, Haim, and Gaga will be the nominations. 3! musicians nominated, probably would be the first time ever.

I low key feel like the controversy over Licorice Pizza will hurt Haim. Most of the critics are in full fledged support of PTA, but the Oscars (as others noted) are more populist. And a few critics (most were attacked for expressing this view) have spoken up about the film making them uncomfortable....

I could see Hudson being the surprise and taking what people thought would be Rachel's spot.

Yes sure, just thought that’s an odd thing to say about Gaga, no ill-feelings here

I am 100% sure she will be nominated. But winning... My stan side would be ecstatic but it's only her second movie and the competition is fierce! But if it's not for HoG I am sure she will win in the future

As of right now this is how I rank best actress (chance of winning)

1. Olivia Colman

2. Kristen Stewart

3. Nichole Kidman

4. Gar

5. Alana Haim

6. Jessica Chastain

Possible Wildcard (no particular order)

Jennifer Hudson

Rachel Zegler

Penelope Cruz

Penelope is hanging on by a thread though.

Olivia is very tough competition for Kristen. TLD is a stronger film than Spencer (from what I’ve read), Olivia is liked among voters, and the Oscars don’t care about spreading their love to make sure everyone has their glory day. They’ll crown the same person again if they feel like it.

Where do you rank Gaga?

She’s a distant 4th right now. IMO her performance isn’t gonna get her a win. Her best shot is to dazzle voters with her personality and star power or to somehow luck out and have the front runners split voters in a way that she ends up with the most.

But of course, still way too early.

getting rejected in acting roles, being bullied at the point that they threw her in a trashcan, drop by labels a few times, dropped by her first big record label, adictions, sexual assault, radio refusing to play her song because it was dance four on the floor etc etc, she faced rejection up until her 22, that's a lifetime, i think this is the reason she's such a great artist.
of course she was born privileged and with good education, but she started making a name for herself like rock bands do in the undergrond, literally from the ground up, she didn't have any connections at all, and she did it all alone, unlike most popstars that enter the industry and get a record deals by the hand of their parents, siblings or partners and the people they know.
of course she could've go crying to her daddy like the prodigal son, but that's not her, she said that she felt like she already made it when she was living all by herself, playing in clubs with her piano, go go dacing and paying her bills alone.

Once again, I'm not questioning the legitimacy of where she is now and what she had to do to get there, but this has nothing to do with acting excellence and I don't think we should consider her life as a whole an unfair tragedy: she's a model of success in every possible way. We all have traumas and life problems to overcome, does it mean we all deserve an Oscar?

To bring it back to the initial point, I basically just found it weird to assert that Gaga winning an acting Oscar was against the odds. That's literally all. She's a natural-born performer from New York who gravitated towards the stage her whole life, her getting an acting Oscar at some point is literally logical. Were there bumps in the road? Sure, but that's just life. Feel free to view it any other way.

Just A Holy Fool

I don't think she'll win, but she has hit all the pre-cursors she has needed to so far, and from what I understand HoG was very popular with the actor's branch, so as other's have mentioned, if she gets a SAG nod, she will get in the top 5 at the Oscars.

I think winning ultimately is still very unlikely. If the movie had been better received, I think she definitely would have won. I personally think its between Stewart and Colman at the moment.

My predicted 5 are:

1) Kristen Stewart

2) Olivia Colman

3) Lady Gaga

4) Jessica Chastain

5) Nicole Kidman

What I’m scared might happen is that with the five front-runners (imo) being all WHITE women (Kristen, Olivia, Jessica, Nicole and Gaga), whoever has the final say might realize the controversy this will cause online and remove one of the five and replace them with either Penelope, Rachel or J-HUD. And I’m scared it will be Gaga who gets replaced. I hope I’m wrong.
