A little off topic, but I always find it amazing how playing someone real will automatically increase your chances of getting award recognition. 4 of the favorites in the best actress race this year are in this situation.

I also think she'll get nominated but let's not exaggerate, you make it seem like Gaga came from the gutter and went from rags to riches... She grew up on the Upper West Side :laughga:

Never said rags to riches. I said overcoming odds. 😉

She's 100% nominated, media would blow up if she wasn't (not that that means much tho lol). I think Stewart, Hudson, Coleman, Haim, and Gaga will be the nominations. 3! musicians nominated, probably would be the first time ever.

This argument is so toxic and disrespectful to Gaga's work. Like, she gave a once-in-a-lifetime kind of performance, and you guys think she will be nominated because of her name? That really upsets me tbh. We are not talking about the Grammys, this is the Oscars, they prefer to see #OscarsSoWhite trading on Twitter than nominating artists that the public thinks should be nominated. They don't give an f, they nominate who they think deserves it (for better and for worse, in the case of black people).
That what I was talking about yesterday in here, you guys don't even believe in Gaga's talent. :saladga:

saying I don't believe in Gaga's talent is a reach. I'm wary of the oscars bc people always forget that the academy is still a business and needs to market their show. Never ever did I say Gaga doesn't deserve it. She does. But the fact that she's a mega-star helps. The two, her talent and her marketing power, can exist at the same time. In fact, it's amazing that she's so talented and deserves the award on its own and also that she's such a star.

i think she’s got about an 80% shot of a nomination, there’s always a chance the oscar’s could pull a jennifer lopez and snub her last minute but i don’t really see it given that this would be her second acting nomination AND she’s already an academy award winner. i think she’s safe for a nomination!

as far as a win, I don’t really think she’s got a fighting chance, but it’s too early to see if Kristen’s frontrunner status holds through the end of the awards season (like Renee Zellweger’s in Judy) or ends up not pulling through (like Glenn Close for The Wife) and someone else (probably Chastain) wins. I’m personally pulling for Kristen out of the movies I have seen so far but I’ve yet to see Eyes of Tammy Fae, Licorice Pizza, The Lost Daughter, etc

Levine

Why am I reading her own fans writing "they're going to nominate her for buzz and raings"? They are going to nominate her BECAUSE SHE'S GREAT and she did an amazing job!

“Gaga shouldn’t be nominated on just her name” Nobody is saying she didn’t give a great performance, I don’t know why I’m starting to see some say that. I’m sure the Academy knows her talent as much as we do, but don’t consider the idea a reach when a lot of these award shows are very much sponsored and selective in who they pick to give attention to, especially when it comes to actors of color and media involving marginalized groups. Rich people still manage these shows :huntyga:

Renée Zellweger won best actress and the only other nominee Judy got was MUAH.  Even if Gaga is the only nominee from HOG she has a chance.

I think it's obvious at this point that Gaga will get nominated, but a win doesn't seem likely. I hope they prove me wrong though, give our Queen her first acting Oscar! :vegas:

Also, the fact that Jodie Comer gave one of the best performances of the year and she's being completely overlooked is gross. :saladga:

Massive Monster

I think she will be nominated.

Seeing how other awards are nominating her.

She really brought numbers in for that movie and its a huge success.

I personnally had so many problems with the movie that I couldn't fully enjoy her performance but that is subjective.

Kind regards

Lets be fair, at 19 she moved to the Lower East side in a really shitty apartment she had 3 jobs to afford and a cocaine addiction to overcome, while dragging her piano around New York and losing a record deal, it IS kind of rags to riches, her childhood was bouji but she did go and live in the rags herself before anything happened

I completely respect the way she started out in the industry, but her former apartment wasn't that shitty and I would literally live in it in a heartbeat. What you're describing is pretty much the everyday life of most people living in cities nowadays. She also always had her parents to fall back on if things didn't pan out the way she wanted.

I'm not trying to diminish her struggles and accomplishments, hardships and suffering don't spare anybody, but let's not paint an inaccurate picture and make it seem like she wasn't born privileged and needs to get even with life by getting an acting Oscar.

What odds though? She's been slaying and winning at life for 14 years and counting and everybody's raving about her performance, I still don't get it. If you mean the time when she got rejected from several auditions back when she was a teenager, then OK, let's beat the odds and win dat Oscar :ladyhaha:
