after the Olivia not wanting to tour arenas / stadiums thread and reading some comments regarding her stage presence as a pop culture lover myself i went on a rabbit hole and watched videos of justin bieber, britney, billie and michael (jackson) among others and came to this conclussion...

Britney and Michael had one hell of stage presence and a spark on their eyes for performing...

i hate to say this because it's seems so unfair but the rest of iconic legends that achieved pop royalty at young like Bieber, Olivia, Selena and Billie are average, they might be talented at singing, sonwriting, but the natural talent, the fire honey, especially the fire, it can't be taught, you are born with it.

If you're going to include MJ's Billie Jean performance when he was 25 then it seems fair to include Gaga who was also dominating stages in her early 20s :legend:

MJ was a huge star at 11 though and on stage since he was 6 so he's an anomaly imo.

Bieber was huge when he was really young too :lolly:

I don't think young child stars who embrace the stardom are all that rare honestly. Child stars who don't grow up terribly troubled somehow, that's a different story :huntyga:

Including Britney who had been performing for years as one of popular scout on Mickey Mouse Club show before launching her solo career, and solo MJ when he already started way many years earlier as a group unit with his siblings, and those stage presence had been results from it is a bit unfair as example to compare it with, don't you think? But what do I know compare to someone who follows pop culture like you??  :billie:

I don’t know that it’s fair to compare other young artists against these two. By the time both of them were out on their solo careers and owning the stage, they had been performing for long before that as part of a group or on television or a combination of both. They didn’t just arrive on the scene ready to be what they were, they had been trained for it for many years beforehand. That doesn’t diminish their talents of course, not by a mile, but it’s unreasonable to expect someone taking their first stab at entertaining to be on the level that two experienced performers were on when they went solo.

Stage presence isn't even about choreography and it's not even about your presence per say. Shakira has good stage presence, so does Normani, she's present she's there, you focus on them, you follow their moves, you're into it. But I think what's on another level is the magic. And to me that magic you feel it because as humans we are not dumb, we feel things, when you live in your inner world, you think no one can vibrate with it, and that it's private, yours only to feel and has no interference with the outside world. But it's wrong. You can sing badly with your heart and you sing about grief, and it can make people cry, Beyoncé can sing the same song while focusing on hitting the right notes and you don't cry. We always think lowkey that these things don't matter, it's about talent, nothing else nothing more. But Beyoncé u can argue sings better than Michael Jackson or John Lennon, but then why do I like MK and PC more because I feel more from them? When an artist is on stage, public can right away feel in a subconscious way how the artist feels internally without being overly hyperaware of it. But it creates the magic people can't describe. The magic is the emotion, the love, pure love for music the artist on stage has. And so when they twirl and fall on their knees and sing with passion, you feel something inside you that also wants to scream, it's like watching a very good movie, and so you remember them very differently than Justin Bieber who gets on stage angry that he has to work because he is tired and is annoyed by fans screaming so he tries to get through this 5 min of performing and then leaves. Of course u won't remember his performance, it's just a nice moment for you, no magic, because there's no pure passion for this. You know people like Michael or Bowie or these icons, they are icons for reasons. You can't really use this word loosely in my opinion. And as much as people can argue they are bad, and all music and art is subjective, you can't argue their pure passion for their craft. Michael didn't just pick any song for his album, and any outfit, and just a quick little performance thrown together. No, things mattered to him, a lot, it's all he had, music, dance and trying to entertain people because he was in awe of Fred Astaire or James Brown... These people are no Billie Eillish or Olivia, and they are just getting started but Justin Bieber has been here for a decade, he is not these people, and he will never have this magic. It takes a certain kind of genius and intellectualism and pure passion + poetic heart to be able to be this good, and this magical on stage and off stage. Stage presence is one thing but I think you meant the magic. Magic takes more than talent, just how I see it. Lately, and i dont care if people say Im an old bitch, Im not old by the way, but lately there is no passion. You seen it with Yummy or anyone, it's about number 1, Ed Sheeran wants to be on top of the charts, xyz wants it too, it's about sales, about all of that. And ofc it's a money making machine, you gotta keep it running, you got staff to pay, your mansion I understand that. But artists used to have this poetic heart, it was more than that. When they spoke in interviews it was almost philosophical, the art mattered it had a very important part in their lives, it wasn't about making songs about just love. They were smart, there was something smart and genius about them... I miss that, I miss good music with soul.
