It's a US tax credit, I see no problem with them requiring US based cars. The credit is to there to help build out demand, why wouldn't we use it to help ourselves?

Because then any country can start to make all these protectionist measures and the free trade agreement becomes useless and might as well not exist.

Canada has its own EV tax credit but we never did it for Canadian manufactured cars only. U can bet if we did the US would complain if it was Canada or Mexico doing it

Plus its not a move without concequences. Now Canada and Mexico are pondering their own retalitory protectionist measures to compensate and send a message. For example it took the US years of effort and debate to get Canada to make adjustments to our dairy industry in the agreement that would make it easier for US access which is one of the things Canada is threatning to undo. Years of beaurocratic and time that could of been spent elsewhere instantly down the drain if it were suddenly undone.

Trade wars never end well for anybody. Tit for tat almost always leads to more and more retaliations

This becomes a borderline legality issue. If ur argument is USMCA shouldnt exist thats another debate all together

But because it does exist and what it involves this move is super sly at the very very least

Thats a half truth lol. Electric cars still work here too and ppl use them...

But there is some truth that cold weather does not have a positive impact in the lifespan of a battery.

Fortunately higher capacity bateries they make now helps offset that problem

If it was a deal breaker for most ppl i dont think Norway would have the biggest percentage of EV fleet in the world lol

Unfortunately Tesla is also one of the least reliable brands at the moment and so is Volkswagen. Lucky thing with the US is that there are many new EV companies coming up with very competitive product.
