Does Taylor Swift have a charity?

I was thinking about how Taylor's most famous "cause" is getting the rights to her own music back, which I've always supported because I thought it was feminist and I don't like Scooter. But the more I think about it, the goal was always for her to fully own her music and not share in any profits. Which is fine I guess, but...

It got me wondering (genuinely!) does she have a charity? I love her music but I'm not really a "stan" so I don't follow her that closely and was just wondering, because I've never seen her talk about one.

I'm not trolling, I Googled and this page only lists a few donations and fundraisers: https://www.looktothestars.org/celebrity/taylor-swift

Someone please prove me wrong - this is the first time I've ever thought about it and it kinda bothers me.

Well, she donated to the Grammys this year. Would explain why they expanded the AOTY category just to include her... :nails:

You mean something like Gaga's Born This Way Foundation? No, she does not have something like that. She does charity of course, but these are individual cases like I often hear that she helped her fan financially or something like that. But this idea of forming an organization which would help smaller artists who were f*cked over by labels or something is really great idea. But, :selena:, I don't think Taylor would be interested in it. I never even once heard that she helped any artist like that without it profiting her. But maybe I just don't have that knowledge  (even though I'm Taylor stan).

And her fans want to paint her as a martyr so bad, but she's far from being one, i think is good that she fired back to own the masters of her music, but she did have more options, anyway, she can do whatever she wants, but she is such a white feminist that puts profit and capitalism in a pedestal, back in 2014 she took out her catalogue from spotify because she thought that "music should not be free", she was against the idea of people having free access to music through streaming without subscription, she had such a bad take on streaming and music back then, she always does that kind of things primarily for herself, not smaller and indie artist, it just comes along with it. that's why i never liked her, look:

I don't believe so and that's....dare I say it....okay? She's not obligated to run a huge foundation like Gaga, Madonna or other celebs. Charity work doesn't have to be a grand event, it can be subtle. And while, yes, her recent attempts at being socially aware have come off as a little too convenient and even out of touch, at least she is making an effort; which is more than many.

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

I hear that. I'm just uncomfortable with people hoarding obscene amounts of wealth. I got a raise at my job last year and I finally paid off my credit card debt for the first time in my life and I already feel guilty for finally having a savings when people are starving. :bear:

I hear you so much!! I worked for barely a living wage for about 4 years and when I finally got a salaried job that allowed me to not shop for food at DOLLAR TREE, I felt guilty. But you cannot allow yourself to feel bad about your personal triumphs. Stay humble, yes, but you have worked hard to get where you are. Don't let anyone or any self-doubt take that away from you.

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

Thanks for this. It's nice to see that she has given one big donation, $1 million to tornado relief in Nashville.

The rest is really pennies in the bucket, though, for her. She's worth $400 million and to give $15k here and there is really not even close to enough of what she should be doing. I really think the public should pressure her-- that's all it would take.

I feel like in a lot of cases, these charities and organizations from celebrities are a huge red flag. It actually surprises me to see the charities actually doing something for the community because I have a feeling that they're simply there for a good tax write off. Rich people will do anything to seem charitable, while dodging taxes while they're at it.

I think there are good rich people and bad rich people, which is my point. Some have pledged to donate ALL of their wealth by the time they die. Others laugh at the idea of that. The point of this thread is: which one is Taylor?

I hope that you realize that $15k is a huge amount for a lot of people? This is an amount of money that could literally either help someone change their entire life or at least support them. To downplay it as 'to give $15k here and there'... she gave two mothers both an heavy donation of $13k and helping someone out to pursue higher education. Of course, she could do better, but come on now. And I mean, in the end, to think that the public needs to pressure her in order to be charitable, tell that to the world's billionaires which are exploiting the world's resources and workers  :rip:

$15k is a lot of money to a lot of people, but the point is that it's NOT a lot of money to Ms. Swift. Same goes for Gaga. But she has given MILLIONS upon MILLIONS.

That wasn't entirely her point. Her point was the artists needed to all be fairly compensated for their work, which Spotify and Apple Music didn't at the time, and honestly still don't now, do. She was not just doing this in favor of larger artists, she was attempting to negotiate better payment for artists of any size and stature within the industry. It's also not really fair to say she was the only one campaigning for this either as she wasn't. She was one of the few who publicly voiced opposition to Spotify and Apple Music's horrendous compensation explicitly, but Tidal was formed primarily for that reason. The reason so many artists were involved in that event for Tidal and had so many stakes is because they were (and still are) the only streaming platform that offers fair and reasonable compensation to artists for the rights to stream their music.
