I mean Britney copyrighted the name Britney, so now if your name is Britney and you want to release a self titled album you might have to go through her! The only reason why Taylor’s attempts at copyrighting were because, yes, some of them were common phrases, but it’s not like every instance every of use of the phrase This Sick Beat needs to go through Taylor, just ones relating to her album SPECIFICALLY on the products that were covered under the copyright. I don’t see what’s entitled about making sure people don’t profit off your music and lyrics? 

 

Edit: Case in point, Michael Jackson has the words Thriller, Bad, Gone To Soon, etc trademarked. Ariana has Sweetener trademarked, a pretty common word lol. But Splenda isn’t going to go out of business or have to pay Ariana. It’s pretty standard practice in the industry, it’s just cool to hate on Taylor 🤷‍♀️
