They figure that if a lot of fans want to go see them, they can drive up the prices to a point where not everyone will be willing to buy a ticket, but enough would that they will be able to maximize profits. So basically between selling a full house at market price and selling dynamic tickets, if the prices are about 10x higher (as is pretty much the case here with Adele), she only needs to sell 11% of all tickets to make more money than a full house at retail price. So obviously, even if she only sells 20% of tickets, she still makes a huge profit. It's just human greed. Ok gotcha. I basically thought those inflated tickets came from resellers and Ticketmaster was just allowing that. On one hand I think it's pretty dishonest from artists to allow that, but on the other hand they gotta make a profit somehow... It's not like they're selling albums anymore. You can't produce a proper era and show with streaming pocket money.

What's even the concept of "dynamic pricing"? It's literally half-disguised theft, I don't even understand how this can be legal. This would never fly here in France. It's "supply and demand" the country's favorite economic concept. 1 hour ago, elijahfan said: I didn't think this was an option and low-key assumed this always happened like that in the US. My only experiences are seeing Gaga in NY and in Vegas, and both times I bought tickets that cost at least twice their initial price (and I purchased those the very day they went on sale). Didn't notice both comments I was responding to came from you, just the ones I noticed so I promise it's not meant to be an attack. Are you sure the ticket prices you're talking about for Gaga aren't just resellers?
JanStan 574
Regardless of the prices she is gonna sell out. It’s a supply and demand issue. The coliseum only holds 4100 and she is only doing 20+ shows. Anyone who was able to buy them and didn’t REALLY missed out. They could have easily resold them and made a lot of money for their trouble.
gypsy101 5,453
huh i thought i heard it was ranging 85 to 600, that stinks. i guess i’m a little less sad about not getting a code

For her UK shows resold tickets are automatically nullified, not sure if that also applies to the US, but if so, bad business strategy

I remember years ago Gaga saying she wasn't happy that fans were charged so much for M&Gs. But it was out of her hands. I'm sure Adele has no say in ticket prices. I live outside the space time continuum.

Yup, and Ticketmaster actually encourages that because they get a cut both times, so it's extra money for them. They actually enable resellers. It's disgusting. skaxboy 5,553
I didn’t even try because I knew this would be very high demand. She should have just performed at one of the many arenas there for a few weeks. Same amount of shows, more people visiting.

By the time I got in (I was only 190th in line) there were already 100 level seats going for over $1k. Saw people on Twitter complaining that they selected $85 tickets but by the time they got to the checkout they had surged to over $300 each. It was wild. It's just her show that can't be resold, but maybe it's because it's part of a festival.

They literally have an option as artists to opt-out of dynamic prices ... She calls her own shots at this stage, I don't think her record label (who only really have her as a major artist) would want her to walk away from them. Just because Gaga said that doesn't mean it's true. "I'm not happy I get paid more money to meet strangers I don't even know". Who would actually believe that? It sounds more like a PR statement imo. Even Taylor Swift doing free M&Gs isn't because she wants to actually meet fans, it's all about building a brand and generating more fans/revenue. 6 hours ago, Vicks said: Why not? she is not doing charity.
