But intentionally I meant that it just minimizes the chances to win an award for smaller female artist when they now not only have to compete with Taylor Swift and Adele but also with Drake and Ed Sheeran.

Do non binary people even want to be nominated for these awards?   trying to be relevant and inclusive, but have notoriously refused to change the entrance requisites for noms. Even HUGE starts like Rina couldn’t get nominated bcs of their xenophobic bs policies.

we love to see it. 💅🏻 dismantling the gender binary is not an easy task—it’s doable, nonetheless. steps like these function in a performative manner but still engender visibility for “the other” (i.e., women and gender-nonconformists) by directly re-indexing the normative attitude. if the question “why aren’t there separate categories?” even hits the average viewer’s mind—it’s a win because discourse begins.

Finally! Hope this extendes to mroe awards as well.

Grammys were brilliant whent hey did their categories overhaul in 2011 and ended the gendered categoried, focusing on the music genre. And it works just fine in the genre categories. Their gender troubles comes from the lack of female producers, engineers, songwriters and etc having opportunities in business. But the female popstars have more than enough spotlight.

Not surprised at the retrograde response here. Genders are a ridiculous concept to distinguish one's artistic work and should drop dead.

Maybe they should just decide how many winners they want and randomly divide the candidates into 2-3 groups and then decide?

Grouping everyone together is bad for women, and a new non-binary group isn’t fair. Non-binary people are such a small percentage of the population that a successful non-binary person will have a higher chance of winning compared to someone who isn’t non-binary but as successful. The award becomes easier to win, and diminishes the importance of winning an award for the other groups.

With this mentality these will be divided by ethnicity and sexual orientation later too. It’ll just water down the importance of the awards and create division imo. Better to just randomize if people want to change it.
