Why did Imagine Dragons flop after Evolve?

After having HUGE hits like Believer, Thunder, Whatever It Takes, they underperformed with Origins, then Mercury Act 1 felt like a non-event (debuted at #9) despite having one of their best records "Wrecked". Do you guys know what happened to them? Has the GP moved on from their music?

Flopped? Maybe in super mainstream / pop charts. Their music is constantly playing on alternative radio when I tune into it.

Yes, I was talking about mainstream charts, 'cause they were hitmakers back then

Didn’t they have two relativity big hits from Origins? Natural and Bad Liar?

Yeah, Natural and Bad Liar were big hits but I think they mostly ride on the success of their previous album, the singles off Mercury Act 1 are flopping so far

Cause every now and then mainstream radio/charts pick an alternative band that they want to commercialize so that they can be like „we helped to make that band famous“ or „we play different types of music“ or „we are edgy now“. But then they  stop promoting them and find another one and the gp‘s taste follows them like sheep.

I think the formula for longevity in the commercial side of music industry is to be a relevant, outstanding, intriguing or like-able personality.  In other words you are also selling your persona to mass public.

ID are great and kind people but they are not that visible to the public.

Their sounds are more of the same. People get bored, fam. The way they did to Maroon 5 too.

I adore Imagine Dragons and Dan Reynolds with all my heart, I think Dan is one of the most incredible human beings in the industry, but if I'm being honest, sonically they don't evolve as much as their peers do.

Their lyricism is also borderline cliche. They have good intentions most of the time but they don't really translate into poetic genius. Their songs are bops but only being bops don't make it nowadays. You gotta have a really solid identity that sets you apart from your peers. It's also why Maroon 5 is flopping. They make radio-friendly music that ends up not being played by the radio because they're not distinguished from other kinds of sounds at all.

I dont think they flopped at all. Mercury did a good job on the charts and everyone is loving the songs since evolve. I think they slowed down with trying to be big and more focused on giving quality content.

Also, this album, dan really wanted to show his struggles right now and show more a personal side and show what is going on right now.

You can't release the same song over and over again eternally, someday people will notice

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.
