Red (Taylor's Version) debuted with 91M but Taylor album has 30 tracks, Adele's album only 12 tracks.

only a few of those tracks are 'brand new' though :laughga:

and Evermore and Folklore with fewer tracks out-streamed

I'm just saying when you say Red TV has more songs so you cant compare it with 30 you make it sound like an advantage when most of the songs on Red are a decade old which surely puts it at a disadvantage because these songs have already been streamed billion of times.

But that's still not the case because even if the songs are old, Taylor has a LOT of fans and most of them will listen to the album in full at least once when it's released, meaning each song will be listened to by many people and will be counted towards the total. If Adele had the same number of songs on her album and each song did the same numbers as her current songs with the least streams (so around 3M per song), she would have gone over 90-100 million streams for her debut. And that's not accounting for the fact that people have more songs to check out, and more songs to skip through if they don't enjoy, and since streaming counts a play when you listen to 30 seconds (i think?), the numbers add to a lot. Having more songs on an album is always an advantage. And that's fine, good for Taylor for getting those numbers I guess.

This is not bad at all. But still it's kind of underwhelming. I mean Taylor beat her with a 9 year old album. Also this Adele's first album in 6 years. You would expect bigger numbers because of the drought. I hope some of the haters will now stop hiding behing Adele to undermine Taylor's success.

If she released a POP album I would have streamed  I love Adele and her voice but these slow, sad songs aren't for me. I listen to boppy tunes wherever I go (to the store, work, jogging) and I ain't listening to slow songs :nooo: well, I have no doubt it's a good album and her voice is amazing :sis:

True :sis: I only streamed SOME of the old songs on RED TV once, some of them I haven't streamed at all :laughga:

this statement 'I ain't listening to slow songs' is confusing

I'm so annoyed by the Taylor Swift comparisons. I feel like every artist gets dragged just because that woman is too successful and everyone else isn't. :wtfga:

It's interesting to me that Evermore (which had 15 tracks) outperformed this.

30 is undeniably a bigger 'event' and has captured the attention of the GP in a much bigger way - but these numbers don't reflect that.

You know what Spotify and other streaming companies should release? UNIQUE streams on a user-by-user basis. That's the only way we - and importantly, advertisers - will be able to gauge the reach of a song or album.

I'm completely confident that 30 would have far higher individual listens than Evermore or RedTV. Of course, this isn't a competition - but I find it interesting to assess the 'value' of streaming data... or at least to try and understand what it actually points to.

In my opinion, fan bases can massively distort what's actually popular and what's not.

Taylor - and I say this as a huge fan - does not seem to have much GP appeal anymore... yet her fanbase is huge and they essentially keep her on top. Adele doesn't have a big 'fan base' that's going to stay up all night streaming 30. She appeals to the GP, which is why I think user streaming data would tell the right story.

I never said more songs isnt an advantage but im also saying older songs are also a disadvantage. Who knows if all 30 songs on Red TV were brand new her streams might have been even higher than ur 90-100 million prediction for '30' with 18 more songs. Obviously I know she has a huge fanbase because I'm a part of it lol.

Underwhelming by all standards. Of course she probably secured the million copies already with the vynils and cd release, so the album will be succesful at leats on the first 3 weeks. Lets see how the albums does over the course of the end of the year and the next.

why this kind of threads always turn into something so negative and stan wars so fast? some of y’all can’t enjoy music without trash talking artists.

Because stans take things that people say about their favorite artists way too personally and despite preaching about how we shouldn’t compare women in music will not hesitate to do so any moment.
