What I don't get is why he was on a riot with a huge gun... like, why? If people are rioting and you show up with a huge gun, they are obviously going to feel attacked. I saw the videos and I get the self defense argument, the only thing I can't seem to understand is why he walked through the riot with that huge gun.

I'm not questioning anything here, though. I just would like to know if he gave an explanation about this because I'm a lawyer and I'm trying to make sense out of all of this.

This person and so many like him see their country slipping from the hands that preference white maleness and are scared. So they're tightening a vice grip on that. In this case, Rittenhouse clearly had every intention to use that weapon to threaten people and got just that. His response *now* is clear indicator that he was in over his head and didn't understand the full weight and chaos of what being in that spot entailed. Again, this is a fantasy scenario of so many in these circles right now, but very few are actually equipped to handle the stress of being in it once they are (take a watch of the video and that is clear imo). So the question becomes, how do you punish someone who was quite obviously delusional to the umpteenth degree, but still went into a space with the specific intent to threaten people with horrible violence? Is that murder? Manslaughter? It could be many things, but I don't believe for a moment that it was anything even relatively close to self-defense as the only thing he defended was a bad decision after knowing very well what he was getting into bringing that weapon there. Sure, Wisconsin is open carry, but Rittenhouse is from Illinois and also underage and also it wasn't his weapon lol Ask yourself if he'd have been in that situation if he hadn't been walking around with the assault rifle and I think that can answer much of the issues surrounding this case.

I personally don't think you can claim self-defense when there was clear intent you were courting violence. That shows either a terrifyingly level of naivete, privileged delusion, or both.

I completely agree with you now tbh I've got admit I was naïve in my first responses and hadn't really looked at the "context" of the area as you put it. I still probably don't understand the full circumstance as your right I don't live in the area. The past day or so I have actually tried to get a better perspective though. As in I had a proper look into it rather then just commenting on the shallow details of what I thought the issue was about . 

I feel embarrassed about defending his verdict and like you I don't know if I could call it murder or manslaughter or whatever due to the whole fantasy like scenario / delusion this kid has put himself in. Regardless there should be some sort of punishment and there's no way this should simply be dismissed as self defence. Thanks for going to the time to try and educate me abit on this and sorry for commenting on this without getting the full perspective first.

Oh girl no you’re good; j’adore an open dialogue about this stuff. Despite what some might say, it’s really really complex! Tbh I think the only way to think about it is through open discussion so I appreciate you wanting to do that in the first place
