purposeful misgendering is when you know what someone's gender identity is and you deny it.  That's an intentional thing to make someone feel bad.  Non binary people i know don't mind when someone unknowing calls them he or she because they understand why it's happening.

Like I said in my post (and you cut this part out) sometimes, it is bullying.  But sometimes it's not.  Sometimes it's just funny because in reality you can often tell when someone is gay based on how they act and again, there is nothing wrong with being gay.  So if a straight guy is often confused as gay, and he really is straight, it's just something he needs to learn to deal with and accept because it's part of who he is.  You don't see gay guys who seem 100% straight crying when someone calls them straight or tells them they're straight because we live in a world that idealizes hetereosexuality and hates gay people to the extent being assumed gay is somehow painful.

And by the way, I'm not going to engage in this conversation anymore.  So you can say what you want but I won't be answering.

Shawn has said he’s straight in interviews, so continuing to insist that he’s gay is most certainly comparable to a trans person telling someone their gender, and having them keep purposefully misgendering them. I don’t understand how you don’t get that. You are correct, there are gay people that seem str8 and same vice versa. However, the appropriate response to that is to understand that not everyone fits into the stereotype of the group they’re apart of, and not to jokingly act like they’re lying about who they are. That’s bullying, whether you like it or not. Idc if you’re done with this conversation, you’re defending bullying, plain and simple. I hope you take a good long look at yourself and how this kind of “humor” hurts many people.

You really don’t get it. This is comparable to purposefully misgendering someone. Imagine if you’re a biological male who identifies as a male, yet you have people who insist you’re female. Don’t you think that would f*** you up mentally? You don’t get to tell someone else what they are. You’re certainly entitled to think whatever you like, but expressing those thoughts is incredibly insensitive.

Also, no one, not even Shawn, said that he was scared of being called gay. He said it messed with his mental health. For you to not care about that is so beyond gross. There’s a special place in hell for people like you.

See you there, baby! :staymad:

Break ups really do suck, I’m sure they’re both going through a lot of emotions right now and I hope their mental health is okay. It’s clear that they both mean a lot to each other.

Ok but them posting the exact same thing is a gag. My only thought is that one of them was so done with the whole thing that they just saw what the other posted and was like “eh sounds about right” and copy/pasted it :billie:

Look we had a similar situation in Aus, where everyone joked about Ian Thorpe, champion swimmer being gay. He insisted he was straight, went on multiple interviews saying he was straight and didn’t come out for years. He finally did come out but it kinda reminds me of what’s happening with Shawn. There’s no doubt in my mind that he’s gay however it his own journey to take. Him being upset about people calling him gay kinda shows that maybe he is in the closet. People claim Ryan Seacrest, Styles, Olivias ex etc are gay but they revel in the attention.

i agree, but it is very different to misgender someone when they're NOT transgender than to misgender them when they are. if he is straight then he's still not gonna face any actual difficulty because of his sexuality so these jokes don't really hold any weight. i get what u mean tho and ppl should lay off

Not every gay person deals with difficulties just bc of their sexuality. When I came out, no one at my school bullied me about it. I understand that I’m probably lucky enough to live in a rare area that isn’t filled with homophobes, but still.
