New Gaga/Patrizia accent comparison

I'm just bothered that she doesn't roll her R in "trash." She sounds very American there.

But who cares, people will still love her and the movie. No one will care about this after it comes out.

This makes the fandom seem so desperate :saladga:

That part! It’s also funny how Adam’s accent isn’t perfect either, but no ones making all these comparison videos of him to prove some point that really doesn’t matter anyway.

It’s like a lot of super stans can’t stand the idea that some people might not see every single thing gaga does as perfectly flawless and feel the need to irrationally defend any critique of her. I promise you’ll live, even if you can’t convince the rest of the world Gaga’s the perfect reincarnation of patrizia.

Admin talking about sabotage as if he didn't help spread the "100 people in the room" montage making a mockery of her. All for likes and RTs as always.

If you're worried about Gaga getting bad press, you should be telling your minions to stop engaging in negative articles, if you're quoting and jumping into critics mentions you're just helping the conversation spread like wildfire.

Wow.. I didn't realize that Gaga's fanbase was all of a sudden experts in dialect and accents!

Seriously, this entire thread is pathetic. It's a film. Gaga is acting. Does it need to be 100% to be a great job? No. :huntyga:

What does it matter, though...she's not speaking Italian in the film. She's speaking English as an Italian woman, who traveled a lot. And from my experience, most foreigners catch distinct parts of languages' sounds. Not to mention, they have their own plethora of accents in their home country to begin with.

This idea of what an "Italian-English" accent should sound like is just based on caricatures that were created over the years by English speakers to comment on, or mock, how the other languages generally sound to them. (this applies to any language with any other language, in this case it's English) This is why, when Brazilians try to imitate a "European Portuguese accent", to the native Portuguese people, they sound like a drunk Russian person trying to speak Latin-American Spanish - because to them that is what we generally sound like.

Here in Portugal, we have a ton of different accents, even though it's such a small country. Hell, I can't even understand some people with thick accents that live 30km away from me. And then, for each of the regions where those accents are prevalent, many people don't even have that specific accent. I'm from a town where many people have a specific variation of the "Algarvio" dialect, but I happen to almost not have it at all. Same as many people around me.

And to top that off, each of those Portuguese people speaks English in a different manner. Some pick up a considerable number of native sounds, while others basically read English words as if they were Portuguese. There's even some that somehow managed to pick up a very convincing British accent without ever even being to the UK.

In conclusion, this woman could sound like ANYTHING. Most people in the GP have no clue how Patrizia talks (or who she is) in real life. In Italy they won't even hear Gaga's voice due to dubbing. What matters is that she is convincing portraying the role, and for that all that her accent needs to be is consistent and cohesive throughout the movie.

Much ado about these accents tbh and we should really call out publications hyper-focusing on it for clickbait or controversy, or just to throw shade at Gaga.

The accent sounds Italian enough for me. I don't need to know if it's EXACTLY how an Italian would do it. It will not kill my enjoyment of the movie. Also, the Russian accent thing was the comment in the initial trailer because she used that lower register of her voice, and I guess some people just wouldn't let go of that critique even if they've shown in other clips that's not how she speaks normally in the movie.

Lmao so many experts on linguistics here all of a sudden.

Focus more on her perfect use of face expressions. She is absolutely perfect, there are many minor things she does that make her look completely like Patrizia. She did an amazing job from what we have seen so far.

Too many people here with moral superiority complex.

.. She doesn’t need her fan base spreading content of her accent in the film VS Patrizia’s real life accent to validate her performance. Gaga doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone - this is a woman who was nominated for the industry’s highest honor for her debut film; a feat that rarely happens for a leading actress. She can act, & her credibility is evident through her work.

From what I can gather, people seem to only be focusing on her accent rather than her take on Patrizia’s story.. it’s so bizarre. It’s not as if Patrizia is a super infamous woman in history, nor is her accent anything significant/famous (for example, like Princess Diana’s accent is in our culture). No-ones banging on about Kristen Stewart’s accent in ‘Spencer’.. it’s not exactly identical to Diana’s, yet her performance is being heralded as career defining / Oscar worthy. Both Streep & Anderson had slightly different / over-dramatized accents when they portrayed Thatcher in their respective roles (another example of an accent everyone knows well) and both actresses won their mediums highest honor (in an Oscar for Streep / Emmy for Anderson).

I think the masses/media love to find reasons to discredit Gaga as an entertainer simply because she’s Gaga. It’s sad, but as a long time fan it’s kinda hilarious people are still doubting her abilities/denying her talent.

That is not the case for Patrizia, which accent is what you expect  from an italian from Milano
