St*les is not the face of gender bending nor feminine men. There are plenty of fem gays and drag queens who have been breaking the norm and serving us androgynous fashion. Feminine gay individuals have always existed and been shunned, and they too deserve a cover or acknowledgment before St*les for practically doing nothing except allegedly being gay, white and masc. Billy Porter had every right to be frustrated, even if his delivery was not polished. I didn't disagree with it, I just said that making it self- serving will always diminish how efficient your message is. I'm not sure his message lacked polish tho. He rather came across as wanting to boost his own legend as much as being there to make these valid points.

When you feel underrepresented, dismissed - or you feel like you haven't got your flowers for your contribution to both your race and community, you will have to make self-serving comments on your very own behalf since the publications will choose to highlight and prop up the white, masc (allegedly) straight guy for once again (as repeatedly done throughout history) doing the bare minimum. Queer individuals, and especially queer POC individuals, deserve their flowers. Lil N*s, an industry troll who is young (which Hollywood loves) is not the only queer black person in the world. Queer people and specifically queer people of color are multi-faceted and should not be reduced to one stunt-queen troll as the sole face of the community. You can tell Billy takes his craft and image very seriously and is passionate about his art, I understand his frustration. He deserves his flowers and I hope he gets them, too. But giving yourself your flowers shouldn't mean exxagerating your importance in bringing a conversation in the mainstream. He could have very well denounced a double standard without presenting himself as the one who brought it which, ironically, is erasing the countless other person who helped the cause, including POC. And yes he deserves his flowers Indeed.

And yes he deserves his flowers Indeed. He isn't the only one bringing the conversation to the table, but he did make headlines and was groundbreaking when he wore that half dress/half suit outfit. He's not only groundbreaking for doing it as a man, but as an older black man - especially when you factor in how conservative the black community is when it comes to the LGBTQ+ community, especially the older generations.
