I will never understand elitist attitude when it comes to art. Like, judging by my avi and signature, y'all know that I'm a fan of comic book movies, so I will defend them, but I think this conversation extends beyond that. When it comes to music, visual arts, movies, literature, etc., etc., there has always been this elitist attitude of the old guard trying to gatekeep what "is" or "isn't" art. If super hero movies aren't your thing, then that's totally fine, but I think this mindset of trying to invalidate these kinds of movies is so weird.

Like, people talk about "Oh, comic book films are so predictable and they're always the same" and then you go to old-school mafia movies or westerns as if they're also not "predictable" or "always the same"?? Yet those movies are herald as untouchable?? It's always this cycle of bashing the new and praising the old or praising something that you, personally, are fond of while trying to invalidate everything else.

Anyways, producers would kill to have a career like Feige's :vegas:

Also, don't come for super hero movies being "boring" or "formulaic" when 90% of y'all are like "OMG GAGA DO AN ELECTRONIC/DANCE POP ALBUM FOR LG6,7,8,9,10,11,12...!!". People like what they like and that's why franchises like the MCU are so consistent. Btw, it's partly why Eternals got bashed by critics and (some) of the general audience. Y'all want them to do something new, but when they do, y'all trash them for it because "Oh, they're trying to hard," "It's too pretentious," "They should stick to their own lane," etc.

Also, a LOT of people who bashes other genre of movies tend to not respect the huge amount of work it represents.

And I hate that. It's ok to not like something. But don't say it's bs because it doesn't fit your vision of what art should be. There are a lot more art and work behind a blockbuster than behind a movie like HoG. And I'm only talking about post prod here.

So at least, people should respect the crew and the work.

Very valid point that it does seem disrespectful to all the people who work on the film. It's one thing to be critical, another to be so dismissive of it all.

And I do think making sweeping generalizations is not great. As I've said, I like superhero movies & TV...but I also find some of them predictable. There are defn. ones that break outside that box, though (Nolan's trilogy, Wandavision, etc.).

THIS. I think its just ppl being pretentious and wanting to act like their taste has some superior high ground. you can have a opinion but if ur gonna share them publically atleast try to be abit impartial and respectful smh.

Eh i'm sorry but ART is subjective and you are getting it all wrong.

How is there more art in a blockbuster than in a movie "like HOG"? :oprah: That doesn't even make sense.

Also he is talking about the script of these movies and he isn't wrong.

I fall in the middle....

I feel like one can love superhero movies and at the same time recognize they often (not always) follow a very routine formula. In that sense, I can understand why some directors dislike superhero films because they might prefer failing rather than producing something predictable. But at the same time, predictable doesn't mean bad.

TLDR: I love a lot of Marvel films and DCEU films, but I sort of understand where directors come from...especially as studios are very hesitant to greenlight big budget films that aren't superhero films anymore.

I mean, but don't they all movies?

PG.

I would agree, but then you get stuff like Watchmen and Black Panther.
Those scripts have substance- but I do agree with him on most other ones lol

I wonder if some of y'all would still agree if Gaga had ever accepted to star in any Marvel movie like she was rumored to... :billie:

This was actually one of my biggest fears. I've talked so much sh*t about superhero movies, and if Gaga was involved in any of this movies I would've had to eat my words and watch all of that mess so I could understand everything in order to see Gaga :saladga:

I don't like when people in the industry talk about their peers work like this for no reason. and he also has some questionable movies under his belt too so he's not one to talk :triggered:

This. We all remember Kingdom of Heaven, Robin Hood, and A Good Year.

Oh wait, no we don't. Because they sucked.
